“Best guide ever”
If you are considering booking a guide in Tokyo, book Akira. Our day with Akira was genuinely the highlight of our trip to Japan. He put together an incredible itinerary for us that perfectly balanced Tokyo’s iconic spots with local neighborhoods and hidden gems we never would have found on our own. It felt much more like exploring the city with a local friend than going on a traditional tour. What made Akira stand out was how naturally he shared his knowledge. He never overwhelmed us with information, but seamlessly brought together Tokyo’s history, Japan’s religious traditions, and cultural context in a way that felt engaging, memorable, and easy to follow. We’ve actually kept referencing things he taught us throughout the rest of our trip because so much of what he shared added meaning to the places we visited afterward. He was also incredibly warm, flexible, and thoughtful throughout the day. The experience felt tailored to us, and he adjusted things naturally based on what we were enjoying. He also took us to an amazing place to eat that ended up being some of the best food we’ve had in Japan. Akira’s English is excellent as well. He spent time living in New York, which made communication feel effortless and natural. That made a huge difference for us. Even after the tour, he went above and beyond by sending us a curated list of his personal recommendations around Tokyo for food, shopping, and other things to do. We could not recommend Akira more highly. He gave us the perfect balance of Tokyo’s local side and major highlights, while bringing everything together with the history and cultural context that made us appreciate Japan on a much deeper level. We’re very grateful we got to experience Tokyo with him. Akira also takes some lovely pictures of you and sends these fire pics to you at the end, so you have a small album of memories to look at :)

Dear Krill, Thank you so much for the great review. It was my pleasure to be a guide for your very first Japan trip. I am so glad to know that "you felt much more like exploring the city with a local friend than going on a traditional tour", because that's exactly what I wish this tour for my customers. I was wondering where you are right now. I know you are still somewhere in Japan and having great time enjoying exchange with locals and loved by them no matter where you are in this country. I know my people love you. Throughout the day, I saw you as a good listener, good observer, likable, kind and respectful person who was raised and surrounded by people with good heart. I have seen many tourist's wrong doing recently more and more, but meeting wonderful people like you, and beautiful Vera, makes me feel that the world is not such a bad place after all. Thank you very much for having me this time. I am looking forward to another chance to explore my loving city together. Sincerely, Akira

“Wonderful Day”
We thoroughly enjoyed our day discovering "off the beaten path" Tokyo spots with Akira. Akira is knowledgable, personable, and an all around great guide. It was refreshing to be away from the Tokyo crowds. Akira took us to a traditional Japanese restaurant for lunch and a hidden coffee shop for some amazing pour over coffee. He catered our agenda to my friend's fish allergy. We walked a lot! Which was perfect for us. Thank you Akira!

Dear Shannon, Thank you so much for the great review. I am so glad you enjoyed the tour, understanding the nature of the tour. Yes, we walked a lot. But I believe you could see the city through the eyes for locals, exchanging locals and feeling the vibes of each of the districts we have visited. Thank you so much for having me as your guide and treating me and locals as your good neighbors. See you next time!

Being a former student and staff member of the University of Tokyo, I have a natural ability to communicate with people from all corners of the world. Regardless of whether you prefer to speak English, French, or Globish with me ! I have practiced Aikido, Iaido (Katana), and Kyudo (Bow) martial arts, and I have also worked on the restoration of Japanese armor. Therefore, I am well-versed in the art of war in ancient Japan. But my passion for history goes further, and during my guided tours, I will share various anecdotes that will bring ancient Japan to life for you ! I'm also a huge fan of old Japanese video games, especially RPGs, so if you want a true otaku experience, follow me to Nakano Broadway and Akihabara! If you're interested in arranging a tour that's tailored to your preferences, feel free to send me a message !

Koichiro Y.
Hello! I’m Koichiro. Please call me “Yamasan”. It derives from my family name and my friends call me so. I worked for a machinery company as a project manager and engineer for mechanical and electrical construction projects both domestic and overseas for over 35 years. I recall my first overseas project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I was 26, and the second was in Singapore. I visited many countries for surveys, meetings, commissioning, project handing over, and so on. In 2014 at the age of 60, I decided to retire from the company and live the expected further 30 years of life with a new career and experiences. I, then, studied translation and guide interpretation. I passed the national examination for licensed guides (English) in 2015 and registered with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in February 2016. Until now, I have been guiding many beautiful guests mainly to popular sightseeing spots such as Asakusa, Tsukiji, Omote-Sando, Meiji Jingu Shrine, and Tokyo Skytree, and also cultural experiences of Origami making, Furoshiki wrapping, and Sushi cooking. I am happy that I can freely arrange a customized tour together with you, or can propose my tours to you. I want to show you some parts of daily Tokyo life and introduce you to Bunkyo City which is located in the heart of Tokyo, just north of Chiyoda City where the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station are. The city is Tokyo’s typical residential and academic area where I was born, grew up, and live a happy life now. Now, we can tour around the world but have not yet overcome COVID-19 completely. Recently, the number of passengers wearing masks on public transportation in Tokyo reduced to some 25% but we should mind about it still. Please carry your mask to wear it where or when necessary (December 2024, Yamasan).

I have been working for the business with American companies for many years and have many experiences guiding customers from all over the world, from Japan to the USA and Europe. I lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for five years and loved to drive around Europe, the USA, and Japan. I now have a national license as a guiding interpreter and want to introduce Japanese traditional culture to people worldwide who are interested in it. I can be your guide in Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kamakura for your enjoyable time in Japan.
