The Citadel of Saladin

The tour guide will share his knowledge with you about that amazing spot that Perched atop the Mokattam Hills, and it was founded by the legendary Sultan Saladin in the 12th century as a defensive fortress protecting Cairo from Crusader invasions. For nearly 700 years, it served as the seat of government and residence of Egypt's rulers.

Inside the Citadel stands the magnificent Mosque of Muhammad Ali, often called the "Alabaster Mosque." Built between 1830 and 1848, it is one of Cairo's most recognizable landmarks, featuring impressive Ottoman architecture, elegant domes, soaring minarets, and breathtaking panoramic views over the city.

Travel back to the early centuries of Christianity in Egypt as you explore the ancient district of Coptic Cairo. Built upon the remains of the Roman Fortress of Babylon, this area preserves some of Egypt's oldest churches and religious monuments.
