About Tour Guide Macco K.

Hello :) I am Macco, a licensed tour guide. I love eating and traveling, so I call myself "EATraveler". I'd like you to experience "tasty (oishi)" Japan, so my tour will be full of nice food.

I was born and grew up in Osaka, and now I live in a small fishing town called Manazuru (near Hakone area) after living in Tokyo for more than 10 years. I fell in love with the beautiful scenery of the sea and mountains of Manazuru, and I really enjoy a relaxing life here. So I'd like to show you around this cozy town, which will make you feel nostalgic and relaxed.

I also work as an editor & writer. My recent works are mainly books about food and drinks, such as fermented food, dried food, cocktails and bars, Japanese sake, coffee, cheese, tea, as well as agriculture and food issues. Based on this background, I'd like to offer you amazing food experiences in Japan and enjoy EATraveling together :)

Looking forward to seeing you in Manazuru!

Important

I can guide you in Kyoto & Osaka, and Tohoku area (such as Miyagi and Iwate Pref.) if you pay my transportation fee.

So Helpful!

I had a wonderful dinner and conversation with Macco. She was so helpful with explaining the finer points of dining in Japan while leading me into a lovely restaurant I would never have found on my own. She is a fabulous guide and I want to take her other tours now, especially to see her favorite seaside town.

Thank you very much for your warm words! I also had a great dinner time with you :) Looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon. Hope you'll visit my town, too.

Our Tokyo visit - short but memorable!

Our post-cruise, short stay in Tokyo with our tour guide, Macco, was absolutely fantastic! She was a joy to be around – warm, engaging, and fun. Her excellent English made communication a breeze. Macco's restaurant and food recommendations were spot-on, and every meal was a treat. The kimono photoshoot she arranged was one of the highlights of our trip, and the photos turned out amazing! Another memorable moment was when she took us to a karaoke spot and everyone joined in. She sang the Japanese version of "Sukiyaki", and yes, Macco can sing! Despite our limited time in Tokyo, Macco made sure we checked off things on our to-do/see list: TeamLab Planets, Shibuya Sky and Crossing, kimono dress up, enjoying ramen, sushi/sashimi/tempura on a conveyor, and Japanese desserts, and of course, shopping. Macco ensured we made the most of every moment in Tokyo despite the cold and on-and-off drizzle. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. Thank you, Macco, for making our time in Tokyo so memorable!

Meeting at Haneda

Macco met us at Haneda airport and right away we felt so comfortable with her as our Guide!! She welcomed us, had a cute sign, which I wish I took a picture with!! Our first time in Tokyo, after long flight; last I wanted to do is get lost finding hotel! Macco was super! Helped us get our Suica card; and anything else we need to do at airport! Boarded monorail effortless with her as our Guide! We arrived at our hotel no problem! She helped us check in too!! It’s so important to start your beautiful Japan stay, on the right path, and feeling comfortable…Macco truly helped us with that and our entire trip was fabulous!! Next time I’ll use Macco for sure!! She is raised in Japan, so knows history and etiquette! She had great suggestions of events that we could see too! So grateful I found Macco on the website!! Arigato Gozaimashita!

Once again, thank you so so much for your heart-warming review and comment for me. I'm so glad that you were happy with me and satisfied with my support. I was also very happy to meet you at the airport, and spend some time together. I do look forward to seeing you again in the near future. With many thanks...

Japan

I’ve called Japan home for seven years, embracing everything from Tokyo’s vibrant urban energy to the tranquillity of the countryside. Before becoming a guide, I explored Tokyo like a curious long-term traveller, uncovering unusual temples, quirky landmarks, hidden backstreets, local live music venues, rural mountain villages, and one-of-a-kind cultural gems. My passion lies in crafting immersive journeys that dive deep into Japan’s heart, sparking a sense of wonder and escape that makes travellers feel worlds away from home. I’m excited to guide you through the Tokyo labyrinth. This city is endlessly fascinating—so layered and dynamic that even with a lifetime here, you’d only scratch the surface. I’ll show you how to navigate it like a local, as mastering the transport system isn’t as tricky as it seems, and I’ll help you gain the confidence to explore Tokyo on your own while we focus on the city’s hidden treasures. Together, we can visit parts of Tokyo most travellers overlook—the nostalgic charm of the Shitamachi, the hustle of salaryman districts, the neon-lit buzz of cyber Tokyo, and tranquil local power spots. Let’s discover the city’s hidden depths and create memories that will last a lifetime!

Japan

Born and bred in Tokyo I am still living in the suburbs of Tokyo. I spent several years in the U.S. and the UK and wanted to show international visitors around Japan in return for the hospitality I had received in foreign countries. After coming back from the UK, I obtained the qualification of the National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter. I can guide guests to every corner of Tokyo including areas off the beaten track. As a history fan I can tell you a historical episode behind the scenes. From a local perspective I can explain how we Japanese are getting along. Since I have science and technology backgrounds, I can give you a tour of scientific or technical things as well..

Hello, I'm Hiroshi. I am a National Government Licensed Tour Guide Interpreter in English. I have got a master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the U.S. I have been living in a city of Fujisawa, which is the city next to Kamakura, for more than 20 years, and also lived in Kamakura for more than 10 years. So far, I have visited almost all the temples and shrines in Kamakura. So I am sure I can offer you a pleasant trip to the historical city, Kamakura. In addition to Kamakura, I can also guide Tokyo, Yokohama, Hakone, Nikko, etc. because I have visited many places in Kanto area. For example, in Tokyo I can show you around the sightseeing spots such as Asakusa, Tsukiji, Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Skytree, etc. I like baseball and used to play baseball, but now enjoy watching professional baseball games. And I like watching Rakugo, Japanese traditional story-telling performance. Of course, I also like travelling very much, and am interested in Japanese culture and history. So I would like to show you Japanese tradition and culture. Let’s enjoy a trip in Japan together. I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
