-New here, but guiding in Japan since 2015-
I m Alex(37), made and grown up in Argentina. I left my country at the age of twenty four, lived in Europe for two years and then started a nomad life across almost all Asian counties that lasted for five years. However I spent most of the time in India, where among other activities I had my first experiences as tourist guide.
Then I met my actual wife, and when the relation got more serious we decided to settled down and have a more stable life. We choose Japan where she is from and where I had been travelling and doing volunteer work and living in isolated communities in multiple places of its countryside.
We spent a not so good year in Tokyo(her city) and then moved to Kyoto after a work proposal in a hotel and also for being a city that we loved from much before. I worked there for a bit more than two years, and being the only foreigners among a staff of thirty six people it was an experience that helped me a lot to understand deeply the Japanese idiosyncrasy, social dynamics, bright and dark points, and way of seeing the reality.
However after that time I decided to work more by myself, doing something that I experienced before, that I felt capable at that time there, and mainly that I really like. Therefore becoming tourist guide here was the best choice and I don t regret at all after almost five years doing this job.
I was working for two agencies, but very recently I planned to join one more and ToursByLocals was the best option among many others.
I love this job for giving me the chance to share many branches of knowledge related with the Japanese history, art, religion and society that I studied for years in a formal and informal way and very unconditionally, without any aim those times.
I also like very much to share my personal experiences here; working in different sectors, meeting local people from multiple backgrounds, or living with a local wife and a local kid.
However, I care the most about the human factor, not by planning it, but in an spontaneous way, I just enjoy a lot meeting new people walk around together, at the point that having the feeling of generating a certain kind of friendship at the end of each day trip.
In other words; I love this job, I love the culture I show, and I love human communication in itself.
