Elaine W.

Hello, dear friends. My name is Elaine, and I am a licensed tour guide based in Beijing, with over four years of professional guiding experience. I hold a valid tour guide license issued by the Chinese authorities, which certifies my qualifications to lead cultural and historical tours across the country. And I was born and raised in Beijing. I'm local. Also I lived in Hangzhou for 4 years. So I'm very familiar of Shanghai and Hangzhou. Prior to the pandemic, I spent nearly six years studying and working in Australia. before studying in Australia, I also taught both English and Mandarin for my lovely students. This cross-cultural background has equipped me with fluent bilingual communication skills, allowing me to bridge the gap between Chinese heritage and international visitors. In recent years, an increasing number of travelers from around the world have chosen to explore China. It is my sincere wish to offer them a meaningful and memorable experience. I am passionate about sharing not only the well-known landmarks but also the untold historical stories and cultural nuances behind each relic, bringing the past to life through vivid storytelling. I have already organized and led several successful tours for international friends visiting China, receiving positive feedback for my in-depth knowledge, attention to detail, and warm hospitality. If you are planning a trip to major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, or Hangzhou, I warmly invite you to contact me. Let us explore China together with Elaine, and embark on a cultural journey that goes beyond sightseeing—one that touches the heart and deepens your understanding of this ancient civilization.

What makes a great guide? Is it being familiar with tourist attractions? Yes, of course. You need to know the best time and route to visit popular sites. For instance, Monday mornings at Mutianyu Great Wall can be a nightmare. Even at the Forbidden City and Summer Palace, there are quieter routes where you can truly immerse yourself in history. Is it being knowledgeable about history and culture? Yes, of course. China has 5,000 years of civilization and Beijing has served as China’s capital for over 900 years. I use visual aids, such as a relief map of China and a 5,000-year civilization timeline comparison, to help you grasp Beijing and China's splendid past. But most importantly, a good guide should understand clients’ needs. Travellers have different interests. Some love to experience locals’ quiet daily life — a wet market visit would be perfect. Some seek excitement, and an acrobatic show can become the most unforgettable part of your trip. Some admire traditional Chinese paintings, and Liulichang, where people have bought artworks for centuries, will satisfy your artistic taste. Others enjoy riding shared bikes and wandering through old hutongs, then, let’s bike together and discover hidden gems even locals overlook. Talk to me, and I will find the side of Beijing that suits you best. Book my service, and I will show you authentic Beijing!

Hello! I’m your bilingual local guide for Beijing cultural & heritage tours. I spent more than 10 years living and working in Europe, so I fully understand overseas travelers' travel habits, cultural needs and the little details that make your trip smooth and enjoyable. I hold a professional English tour guide qualification, and I focus on deep-dive tours covering Beijing’s museums, ancient temples, historic relics, grotto art and classic traditional architecture. I love telling history with lively, insightful stories rather than rigid textbook explanations. I’m happy to draw interesting comparisons between Eastern and Western culture during our visits, to help you truly get behind the stories of every relic and landmark. I’m an experienced global traveler myself, having hiked iconic long-distance trails and explored over 20 nations by self-drive and backpacking, so I can offer great off-the-beaten-path travel tips as well. Patient, detail-oriented and easy-going, I aim to make your Beijing journey both educational and relaxing, and help you experience the most authentic side of this ancient capital.

This tour will lead you away from touristy spots, and through the local and mind-blowing contrast that you can use as food for thought.

“a great time with experienced and patient help”

A group of 6 with mix of no mandarin and no English. She provided both mandaring and English! And also accommodated my elderly parents and younger daughter. Also took extra time to deviate from plan to provide above and beyond service forbidden city. Highly highly recommended. (John and family)

Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and heartwarming review! It was an absolute privilege to host your multi-generational family. I always believe that a great tour is about adapting to the family's rhythm, so I was more than happy to adjust our Forbidden City itinerary to ensure your parents and daughter were comfortable and happy. Bridging the language gap with both Mandarin and English is something I truly enjoy doing, as it helps everyone connect deeper with the history. Thank you for your high recommendation—it means the world to me! Wishing your whole family wonderful memories from Beijing.
