“Magical Day in Dubrovnik”
How do I put into words the amazing journey Ana took us on during our visit to Dubrovnik Old Town and the City Walls. Fantastic, Magical, Amazing, Joyous, Historical! When we booked the tour, my wife and had no idea what to expect on our first visit to Dubrovnik so when we met Ana at the city gates, her charming smile, soft demeanor and lovely personality confirmed we made the right choice for guides. Ana, being a historian, linguist and a lifelong resident of Dubrovnik started us off with a brief history of the City Gates and her fantastic city. Upon climbing the stairs to the WALL (you know nothing John Snow) Ana began our journey with a walking tour and history lesson on the castle walls and the development of the city inside. It was beyond our dreams to have our first trip to Croatia be put into the hands of a truly passionate and knowledgeable guide. To truly know a city and its heart and soul one should embrace the history and culture for a journey that excites the mind and leaves a lasting impression on you! My wife and I were taken with Ana's depth of her passion for the castle and the amazing wall. Trekking the entire wall, you get to see 360 degrees of the most beautiful scenery along the Croatian coast. Couple that with the variety of shops and restaurants our senses were satisfied to the limit. Ana took us to her favorite places (her children loved them too) like the candy shop with so many different varieties of sugar; the gelato shop (had to taste this too!) We shopped for Olive Oil and Local cheeses and meats. Spectacular! Ana wasn't done yet and we boarded the Cable Car to the top of Dubrovnik for a view of the Old Town, the blue green waters of the Adriatic and the hills behind us. She gave us the history of her city with passion and love that you can't get from just any guide. If you are booking a guide to visit this city, then there is only one choice - Ana! “Ana was perfect ”
We love Dubrovnik. Seeing it with a local was informative and enjoyable. We had a large group of family and Ana navigated the entire group very well. The itinerary paperwork had two meeting times at the Pile Gate ( 9 and 10am). We came at 10 and that left Ana waiting more than an hour. She adjusted and was so calm and kind. We walk the southern wall and a bit of old town. She made us reservations at Marco Polo and lunch was fantastic. I would highly recommend Ana.

Dear Kim, Thank you very much for the lovely review! I’m glad you enjoyed the tour and were happy with the lunch at the chosen restaurant. I’m also glad we managed to meet in the end and still have a great experience together, despite the misunderstanding about the exact tour start time. All the best, Ana

Dubrovnik is a beautiful city with a Mediterranean climate, so make sure to bring a hat and sunscreen as well as lightweight clothing. While the Croatian Kuna was the currency of choice until recently, the country has switched to the Euro recently so you don’t have to worry about currency conversion.
Learning some basic Croatian phrases is also a good idea, although many people do speak basic English. You should also respect the city and especially its old walls as it is an official UNESCO World Heritage site and damaging any site will incur hefty fines and perhaps even jail time.
Yes, the city is very walkable, and in fact parts of the old city center are zoned as pedestrian only. You can very easily enjoy great walking experiences of the city, just be sure to bring some comfortable shoes.
Dubrovnik enjoys a pleasant climate year round, however the peak tourist season is during the summer months (June - August). This is also the hottest time of year, so be prepared for the heat as well as potential crowds, but this is also arguably the best time of year to visit as many fun festivals take place during the summer. If you want some milder weather and slightly reduced tourist numbers, aim for spring (March - May) or autumn (September - November). Winter time is obviously also an option, but things can get a bit more chilly.
The city is generally safe for tourists and major crime is rare, though pickpockets are always a possibility no matter where you go. Don’t flaunt your valuables and keep important documents in a safe place if possible. As long as you stay vigilant of your surroundings and don’t wander around late at night by yourself you should have no issues here. It’s also important to watch for traffic as the streets can get congested and to only use officially sanctioned taxis.
Most places in Dubrovnik will accept major credit cards and even app-based payment methods, especially hotels and restaurants. However, smaller shops and markets may not, so it’s also a good idea to keep some cash on you (Euros).
Having a private tour guide accompany you will help ensure you get the most out of your Dubrovnik tour experience. Our guides can not only take you to the best spots, use their experience as locals to show you the country’s hidden gems, and generally take care of details such as transportation, scheduling, and travel recommendations.
