Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park
Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park is a peaceful outdoor space built near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). It was created to promote hopes for reunification and to remember the pain of division. Visitors can see meaningful landmarks such as Mangbaedan Altar, the Jangdan Station steam locomotive, the Freedom Bridge, and the symbolic railway endpoint. Each spot reflects the wounds of separation and the longing for a united Korea, making the park a deeply moving place that blends beauty with history.
Guided DMZ tour (includes the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, Dora Observatory, and Unification Village)
The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel
The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel was secretly dug by North Korea and discovered in 1978. It’s only 52 kilometers from Seoul and could have allowed thousands of soldiers to pass through in an hour. Today, visitors can go down into the tunnel to see firsthand the tense history between the two Koreas. The narrow passage and thick concrete barricades give a chilling glimpse into past conflicts. It’s a rare chance to experience Korea’s modern history up close.
Dora Observatory
Dora Observatory sits on a hill near the DMZ, offering a clear view across the border into North Korea. On a clear day, you can spot North Korean villages, guard posts, and even the famous flagpoles. Binoculars are provided so visitors can get a closer look at life beyond the border. The observatory also has displays about inter-Korean relations and the hopes for peaceful reunification. It’s both fascinating and emotional to look out at a country so close, yet so distant.
Tongilchon (Unification Village)
Tongilchon, or Unification Village, sits just south of the DMZ as a living symbol of postwar hope. Here, residents follow special rules to cultivate renowned organic soybeans and rice. Today, farm stalls brim with fresh local produce and authentic Korean crafts. Visitors can shop everything from hearty grains to handmade souvenirs straight from the growers. It’s a peaceful place to taste border-life flavors and bring home the best of Korea.
Lunch Time
I’ll recommend a few restaurants, and you can choose one based on your own preferences. Please note that the cost of the meal is not included.
Visit to the War Memorial of Korea
The War Memorial of Korea is a powerful museum that tells the story of Korea’s military history, from ancient times to the Korean War and beyond. Located in central Seoul, it features indoor and outdoor exhibits, including real tanks, planes, and warships. The Korean War section is especially moving, with personal stories, photos, and artifacts that show the human cost of the conflict. One of the most touching places is the Monument of the Fallen, where over 150,000 names of soldiers and UN troops who died in war are engraved on black stone walls. Through my guided tour and the detailed displays in the exhibition halls, visitors can learn in depth about how the war began, how it unfolded, and how it shaped modern Korea. The museum presents not just facts, but real emotions and human stories behind the history. It’s a meaningful place that leaves a lasting impression on anyone who visits.
