Meeting Point
National Museum of Conimbriga (At the Entrance. Guide with a green shirt, yellow botlle)
- museum, right next to the Conimbriga parking lot. After the introduction, we went down to the archaeological site and later visited the museum. The museum/Conimbriga is located 20-25 minutes from the city of Coimbra. It is located between Lisbon and Porto, with a highway nearby. It is always an excellent place to stop if you are traveling along this route or if you are in Coimbra. To and from Coimbra, if you do not have your own transportation, there is a public bus, but I recommend that it is easier to use a taxi/Uber/Bolt. If you take uber/bolt/ taxi, Don't forget to say that you would like to go to Conimbriga ruins, and not just Conimbriga (there is a street named Conimbriga, which is quite far from this archaeological site).
Moorish River Waterfall/ Walkway
Visit the Moorish river and its waterfall (with water, when rains. Usually from october to March), now also featuring a walkway that offers even more incredible views. It is located on one of the slopes of Conimbriga, just a few meters from the roman city. This stop is mainly for us to enjoy the magnificent views and nature, and to get a sense of the geographical conditions of the area, so that we can understand the context of Roman life in this area. We won't do the whole route, because it would take much longer, but a small part of it.
National Museum of Conimbriga
The Conimbriga Museum presents a collection of various finds discovered over the years during excavations at the archaeological site (kitchen utensils, coins, parts of pillars, tools, and much more). Through videos and models, we can also see various ruins that we visited earlier, reconstructed as they were in Roman times.
Conimbriga Ruins
Get ready for an exciting journey into the past, as we go back around 2,000 years in time. We will explore the center of the ancient Roman city of Conimbriga. Among other attractions, we will visit the Forum, the public baths, the city walls, remains of the Roman road, noble houses (notably the incredibly well-preserved Casa dos Repuxos), try to understand and imagine how they lived, and see extraordinary sites.
Amphitheater ruins ( Village Condeixa-a-Velha)
The village Condeixa a-Velha, was built on top of the ruins of the ancient city of Conimbriga. It is still inhabited today. Here, we will see can see the arches of the Roman amphitheater...
Ending Point
Parque de Estacionamento de Conimbriga

This is just a suggestion, but If you are very interested in history and would like to take an original tour in Lisbon, we can visit various archaeological sites in Lisbon (such as Roman cisterns, city walls, and Iron Age neighborhoods), sometimes walking through unexpected places, such as shopping malls or under hotels, banks, churches, and even bathrooms (public, clean)... History is where you least expect it.
