Crossing the 25th of April Bridge
The 25th of April Bridge in Lisbon is a striking suspension bridge spanning the Tagus River. Completed in 1966, it was initially named Salazar Bridge but was later renamed to commemorate the Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974. The bridge's design resembles the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and it has become an iconic symbol of the city. The Christ the King
"Christ the King," or "Cristo Rei" in Portuguese, is a monumental statue situated in Almada, overlooking Lisbon. Inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it was inaugurated in 1959 as a symbol of gratitude for Portugal being spared from the effects of World War II.
The statue stands at 82 meters tall, with its arms outstretched, offering panoramic views of Lisbon and the Tagus River. Accessible by a lift to an observation deck, visitors can admire the breathtaking scenery. The Christ the King statue represents a powerful religious and national symbol, providing a serene backdrop to the city's skyline and serving as a testament to Portugal's cultural and spiritual heritage.
Praça do Comércio
Market Square, or Praça do Comércio in Portuguese, is a historic and bustling public square located in the heart of Lisbon, Portugal. This grand square, also known as Terreiro do Paço, is one of the largest in Europe and has played a significant role in the city's history.
Flanked by colorful, uniform buildings, the square opens up to the majestic Tagus River. At its center stands the equestrian statue of King José I, a prominent feature of the square.
MAAT
The Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology, known as MAAT, is a contemporary cultural institution located in Lisbon, Portugal. Situated along the Tagus River, MAAT is recognized for its distinctive and innovative architecture, featuring undulating curves and reflective surfaces designed by the British architect Amanda Levete.
