Hello! I’m Hitomi. I was born and raised in Kagoshima. After graduating from the college, I mostly lived in Tokyo and came back to my hometown 10 years ago. I love communicating with people and sharing each other’s culture and history. A 4th generation shouchu distillery, pionner in the field of aged shochu, Kanosuke has developed a deep understanding of the delicate craft of distilling and is now trying its hand at single malt mellow yet flavorful whisky. Mars Tsunuki, under the power of nature and time, complex and diverse raw liquors are produced over the years of aging in the barrel storage. The 400-year history of Satsuma ware, introduced from Korea features numerous ceramics by successive generations of Chin Ju-kan.

Oshima Silk Wearing Experience, Chiran Samurai Village and Peace Museum
Enjoy a stroll through the subtropical garden wearing Oshima Silk, one of the three great textiles in the world along with Gobelins and Persian carpets. Chiran is home to more than 500 samurai residences during the late Edo period. The breath of history is still felt after more than 270 years. Chiran Peace Museum preserves and displays materials left by the deceased Army pilots of the unprecedented Tokko operation in Okinawa during the final moments of WWⅡ, known as Kamikaze internationally.

The shochu production season runs from late August to November, the same time as when fresh sweet potatoes are harvested. By witnessing the delicate manufacturing process and huge tanks that go into making shochu, you will deepen your respect to the brewers and your love for shochu. Rose Garden Kanoya is Japan's largest rose garden, with 35,000 roses planted on a vast 8ha site. Rose Festivals are held in spring, late April to June and fall, late October to early December.

“Volcano, Vinegar and Samurai fun”
Our group had a wonderful time on the tour with Hitomi. Even before the tour day, Hitomi was in contact with clarifications and requesting lunch orders. She and the driver greeted us at the port at the agreed time, actually a few minutes early. She was extremely organized and based on the weather and crowds, made some minor adjustments to the agenda. The volcano visit was wonderful despite a little rain. The foot bath was soothing and none of us wanted to leave. The visit to the amber rice vinegar brewery was great and we learned lots with Hitomi acting as the English interpreter, lunch was ready and waiting for us and very yummy. Next was the visit samurai villa which was very different from the temples and castles we had visited on previous tours, a great learning experience again and the grounds were beautiful. Thank you Hitomi for showing us some wonderful sites in your home city and country side.

“Beautiful day in Kagoshima ”
We enjoyed an excellent day in Kagoshima with Hitomi as our guide. She had arranged everything perfectly for our cruise port visit and was a great host. Hitomi even made us a reservation for a hot pot meal to try the famous Kagoshima black pork and it was so delicious- "Meccha oishii"! Thank you Hitomi for a great introduction to your city!

“Kagoshima Family Adventure ”
Hitomi was wonderful. She arranged a private taxi bus for the day to take us into Kagoshima from the port. She was very organized, and very knowledgeable. Her itinerary for us was perfect with the kimono and armor dressing, and we so enjoyed the soba noodle making and lunch! She made our stop in Kagoshima very memorable!
