Hi I'm Eiji, an English-speaking tour guide in Kagoshima and Amami Oshima.
Born in Tokyo and left the bustling capital when I was 22 years old with my little backpack. After spent my youth to see and experience the world, more than 25 countries in total, and lived in several areas of Japan, such as Yakushima, Izu, Kochi, and Amami Oshima. Now, I’m based in Kagoshima, still have a wanderlust…
Since 2010, I have worked as an English-speaking tour guide in Japan, for INTREPID TRAVEL for 3 years, as a sea kayak tour guide in Izu for 3 years, and as a self-employed in Amami Oshima for 9 years, love to show people around my favorite places.
My interests are traveling, birding, playing with nature, and cooking as well...

“The BEST experience!!!”
I loved this tour beyond words!! I had initially booked in 2020 and obviously everything was locked down and I had to cancel. Five years later, I finally got to meet Eiji and find some very cool species!! We found Hime Habu Pit Viper, Amami Rabbit, Akamata snake, several species of endemic frogs, newts and Ryukyu Scopes Owl! Eiji is extremely knowledgeable of the species and area of Amami Oshima, I learnt so much!! I had the best time and I highly, HIGHLY recommend this tour!! Thank you once again Eiji!!

“Amami Oshima Birding Tours on May 25, 2025”
Eiji is an excellent birding and nature guide. We visited three sites on the day tour and 3-4 forest roads on the night tour, where all of Amami’s endemic species can be found. I would highly recommend Eiji to anyone traveling to Amami independently who is interested in birds and nature.

“Wonderful island”
Eiji was a great guide. He listened to what we wanted and we had a great day. He is very kind and despite the language difference we had a great time. It was wet that day but Eiji brought umbrellas for everyone. He has a very beautiful smile.

I was born and raised on the Osumi Peninsula in the eastern part of Kagoshima Prefecture. In elementary school, I walked 4 km one way to school. I used to fuss with the neighborhood children about the kappa (a well-known Japanese specter, water imps) in the creek. In summer, I drank from the freshwater flowing into the eel pond on my way home and picked wild strawberries to eat. I aim to be a guide who can provide such "unique" and exciting experiences that I cultivated as a child. I am a local, and I can give you a guide who understands the area. I have a husband, a son, a daughter, and two cats. My home is in a rich natural environment, and in early summer, you can hear the call of the ruddy kingfisher!

Hi, I’m Hoshie! I’m a national government licensed tour guide from Osaka. I moved to Kagoshima in 2021, and after living here for four years, I’ve completely fallen in love with this amazing place. That’s why I decided to become a guide in Kagoshima! Kagoshima is a perfect blend of stunning nature and rich culture. We can see the majestic Sakurajima volcano from the city, which reminds us the powerful natural forces. Kagoshima was home to major Meiji Restoration figures, so history lovers will find plenty to explore. And of course, the food is incredible—famous for Kurobuta (Berkshire pork), Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), and Shochu (a local distilled spirit). I’m passionate about history and love visiting historical sites all over Japan, especially in Kyoto and Nara, where I can explore Japan's ancient history. I also like outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and camping. Kagoshima’s natural landscape is perfect for these adventures, so there’s always something new to discover!
