About Tour Guide Mark T.
I am fascinated by the rich history and culture of the city of Nagasaki and the surrounding area and I take great pleasure in introducing people to what is one of the most unique locations in the world. It is a place of dreams, ambitions, tragedies, resilience and physical beauty.
As a resident of Nagasaki for over 40 years and a professor at a university, I have had decades of experience guiding foreign guests around the city and other locations near the city. I have also guided my Japanese students on cultural trips to the U.S., Canada and the U.K. around 20 times. In addition, I have decades of experience conducting courses and lectures on Nagasaki history, Japanese society, Japanese history and contemporary Japanese literature.
Although I greatly enjoy encouraging learning and experiences on others, I also thrive on continuing to learn more and every tour is a rewarding experience for me as well.

The itineraries listed are my "best-choice" selections of sites. Suggestions for changes are welcome, but because the addition of a site will mean the subtraction of another site, please include mention of what you do not mind leaving out.

“Great overview of Nagasaki ”
Mark is easy to chat to and our tour went amazingly quickly. Mark is just starting out as a tour guide and is open to what interests you, as well as showing the most significant places in his adopted home. I can recommend a day out with Mark.

“Mark is a beautiful human and a memorable guide”
Mark is Wisconsin born and has been a professor in Nagasaki since 1982. Having a chance to have someone like Mark personally take you through Nagasaki is a huge opportunity. He not only shows you the many important sites and gives you the back story on the history he is flexible to tailor his guiding to meet your interest and needs. This is no canned tour. It is custom made by you. And did I mention he knows the best places to eat and helps to translate the menu and guide your ordering. So fun. So recommended.

Martin, thank you for your kind review. You and your pair were pleasant and interested guests. It was useful to know that you had been to a lot of other places before Nagasaki and were a little worn out. Knowing that I kept the pace down, but we were still able to see most of the major sights. Hope that the rest of your trip went well.

Hi! I'm Sho! I live in the center of Nagasaki city and work as a YouTuber, podcaster, and tour guide specializing in sharing the charms of Nagasaki. Actually, I was born and raised in Yokohama, near Tokyo, and worked for about 5 years in Tokyo. However, I fell in love with the culture and history of Nagasaki and moved here in 2020. Nagasaki has a rich history of international exchange and friendship, established about 450 years ago as an international trading port in Japan. Since then, many people from all over the world with diverse cultures and values have visited this city. I love these stories and histories of Nagasaki. Nagasaki is often associated with the sad history of the atomic bomb, which is, of course, an important part of this city's history, but Nagasaki has much more than that. I'm looking forward to introducing you to the many charms of Nagasaki!

I had worked for the Japan's biggest travel agency JTB (Japan Travel Bureau) for 35 years as a tour escort for Japanese. I visited 68 countries and of course all over Japan as well. So I’m familiar with almost all of the tourist attractions in Japan. More over I’m also a professional magician now. I’m a member magician of The Magic Castle in Hollywood in US. That's why I made a decision to become an English tour guide. I acquired a tour guide license issued by the Japanese government with a lot of hard work in 2016 and I started from the following year. I work as an English guide approximately 130 days a year. My wife is physically disabled, and I usually care for her. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I receive home care and bathing services, so I am unable to go out during the day as I have to prepare for and clean up afterwards. I am available to guide on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I can take up to four people sightseeing in my private car. I am available at any time during evening tours, such as YATAI tours. I look forward to hearing from you. Please ask me first. If it is possible.

In 2025, it's the 3rd year as a private tour guide. I speak English and German a little. My hobbies are knitting, handicrafts of earrings and keychains, writing & reading novels in Japanese, and searching for good cafes. Next year, I'm about starting to garden for vegetables and harbs. The main place of a tour is Nagasaki city, including the war hisotory spots. I'd like to guide you to the cities of Sasebo, Saikai, and Unzen, too, if you hope. But I don't have a driving lisence, so transport while your tour is necessary. I'm good at a family tour for your young kids, too. I like kids, so I'd like to suggest some ideas for their playing in the Nagasaki prefecture.
