“Painter of the Big Picture”

It was the very first day of our Trip to Japan. Akira managed to explain the overall context of Japanese history and culture starting from Nara till today in a very knowledgeable and very entertaining way. Akira introduced us to a couple of Kyoto highlights of Shinto and Buddist culture with my personal highlight being the zen gardens of Daitoku-ji. He made the day for our daughter with the lunch in his favorite Ramen restaurant. Akira is very passionate and a true guide by hart. Thank you very much Akira for a great day !

Akira picked us up at our hotel and took us to Arashiyama's bamboo forest, Kinkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera and the Higashiyama streets, and Fushimi Inari. He's knowledgeable, but more than that, he's an excellent storyteller who seemed genuinely excited to share the history. The best part was how he connected each site to the others and wove the whole day into one story. He was friendly and personable, with excellent English, and he's an excellent driver. Early on he asked good questions about what we already knew, what we didn't, and what we like and don't like to eat. For lunch he took us to a great little neighborhood ramen spot in a residential area that tourists would never find on their own. Even if this is the same tour he gives everyone, it felt custom-made for us. Five stars, and highly recommended.
