Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King

The Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King in Guangzhou houses the 2,000-year-old tomb of Nanyue King Zhao Mo, who ruled from 137 BC to 122 BC. Discovered in 1983 and opened to the public in 1988, the museum showcases the tomb and its complete trove of artifacts. The mausoleum, hidden 20 meters underground, is made up of 750 huge stones with colorful murals. More than 1,000 cultural relics have been unearthed, including bronzeware, terra cotta ware, and a unique jade burial suit made up of 2,291 pieces of jade connected by silk, which is the only one of its kind in the world. The museum also exhibits traces of various cultures, such as central Chinese culture, Chu culture, Bashu culture, and foreign cultures, representing the cultural diffusion in the Lingnan region during the Han Dynasty.

Temple of the Six Banyan Trees

The Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, originally built in AD 537, is a Buddhist temple in Guangzhou. It was constructed by the monk Tanyu under orders from Emperor Wu of the Liang to house the relics of Cambodian Buddhist saints. The temple was burned down and rebuilt during the Northern Song Dynasty, and around the same time, Su Shi composed a poem "Six Banyans" in honor of his visit, after which it was renamed. The main structure, the Flower Pagoda, was built in 1097 with an octagonal base and a colorful exterior. It was rebuilt again in 1373 after another fire in the early Ming Dynasty and restored in 1900. The temple is also a popular destination for families participating in the international adoption of children from China, where they receive blessings for their newly adopted children.
