Meeting Point
Praça do Marquês de Pombal 8, 1269-133 Lisboa
- I'll be in front of the Fenix hotel. Easy to get there by Metro, Yellow and Blue lines with connections with Red and Green lines as well.
Driving north from Lisbon
Starting in Lisbon, driving 2 hours to Nazaré. You will be travelling in very comfortable vans with air conditioning where you just have to relax and enjoy the ride all the way.
Visit Nazaré lighthouse
When arriving to Nazaré and park the van, we'll walk to see surfboards and exhibits at S. Miguel Arcanjo. It is located on the top of the cliff on the side of Praia do Norte. Possibility to see some of the surfboards used to surf the Nazaré big waves, most of them autographed; a room showing how the North Canyon works, and others with a photo/video exhibition and access to the rooftop, from where it’s possible to watch the surfers being helped by jet skis or paddling to catch the waves when conditions are right
Stroll through Sitio
Enjoy views over downtown Nazaré in this neighborhood. The Sítio, located at the highest point of the village with the best viewpoint. It is also closely linked to the cult of Our Lady of Nazaré, who, according to a 12th-century legend, was invoked by Mayor D. Fuas Roupinho. While chasing a deer, he nearly fell into the abyss with no chance of survival, but was miraculously saved.
Enjoy local lunch
Dine at an authentic Portuguese beachside restaurant. We can start with a local cheese, olives and bred while the main dish is getting well-prepared. Fresh grilled fish and octopus are some of the most delicious. Drinks included as well.
Drive south to Óbidos
After lunch we'll drive south to Óbidos.
Walk Óbidos mediaeval castle streets
Explore the medieval castle and village by walking through its streets and along the castle walls. The Romans lived here until the 5th century, leaving after the fall of Rome. In the 8th century, the Moors built a fortification atop the hill, which was later captured by Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques, in 1148 and modified in the 14th century. The maze of narrow, cobbled streets leads to bustling squares, cozy cafés, quaint shops, and local craft markets. Everywhere you go, you’ll find whitewashed houses adorned with flowers and vibrant, colorful paintings.
Try Ginja de Óbidos
Sample the local famous sour cherry liqueur, often served in a chocolate cup. It originated with 17th-century monks from the area, who combined Morello cherries and brandy, and enjoying it as an aperitif or after dinner. Today, any time is a perfect time to try the dark red drink, as many travellers to Óbidos do.
Return to Lisbon
