Central Hiroshima and Okonomiyaki (Local Food) Tourcover image

Central Hiroshima and Okonomiyaki (Local Food) Tour

Hiroshima
4 hours

First up, I bring you to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Hiroshima is well known as the first city in the world history, that was atomic bombed. You may walk and drop by at many spots built to commemorate those who perished in those days and learn more at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. After that study tour, we roam around Central Hiroshima (the busiest street for shopping) and finally arrive at Okonomiyaki restaurant for early supper. Okonomiyaki is Hiroshima's soul food; a savory pancake filled with chopped vegetables, meat, sea food, noodle, egg and whatever you want, even cheese... Actually this is the origin of the name of Okonomiyaki, since Okonomi literally means "as you like" and yaki means grilled. Fun to see how to make on a huge iron plate and exciting to eat with a special tool (Kote). Just give it a try.

Rabbit Island

Hiroshima
8 hours 30 min

Rabbit Island is home to hundreds of friendly bunnies who approach tourists for food. Once this island was secluded as a secret base of the Imperial Japanese Army to produce lethal gas during WW II. And because of the poison gas development, it is thought that the test subjects included rabbits. After the war, the island restored peace and got well overrun by bunnies to become a Heaven of rabbits. Please enjoy being mobbed by adorable creatures and the beautiful nature there.

Dear Erika, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. It was my pleasure to spend a special day with you. Again, happy birthday to your daughter!! Best, Mayumi

Thank you Mayumi

We really enjoyed meeting Mayumi - she took us on a 2 hour tour of the Peace Museum, taught our kids how to make origami cranes and showed us around the grounds. She was very informative and friendly. We'd recommend her!

Qiujing E.

Dear Qiujing, I highly appreciate your nice review. It's my pleasure sharing the time with wonderful families and children. The Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations recently received the Nobel Peace Prize. Times are tough, really tough. But let us pray that peace will come to the world as soon as possible. Best Mayumi

Excellent guide and wonderful tour

Mayumi is extremely experienced and knowledgeable She is passionate and wonderful to listened to when she tells about the culture, traditions and history of Japan and Hiroshima Visiting with her the Peace Memorial Museum and Park and the Atomic bomb Dome is a really touching experience We are thankful for the day spent with her

Lucia C.

Dear Lucia, Thanks so much, too, for a delightful tour with your charming family. It looks very hot and humid again today, though. I hope you will enjoy your visit to Naoshima. The weather in Tokyo next week is not looking so good, but a blessed rain could be better than extreme heat. Thank you very much. Best, Mayumi

Hi everyone. I'm Kazumi. I am a qualified tour guide.I have been guiding Hiroshima since 2010. Through guiding Hiroshima, I can give my guests my knowledge of this area and Japanese culture. At the same time, I can learn their understanding of Japan and the differences between our culture and theirs, which is very interesting. I also believe that meeting with local people is the best way to know the area. I was born and grew up in Hiroshima. I am very happy to give you wonderful time and memories in Hiroshima. I am really looking forward to hearing from you.

I am a national licensed guide - interpreter and was born and raised in Hiroshima and have lived in Hiroshima for over 60 years. I worked as an engine engineering engineer for an automobile company for 42 years. During that period, I worked on the joint engine development program with Ford Motor Company for six years and spent 3 years in Germany and acquired English communication skills. While communicating with people from many countries both work and privately. I also learned the difficulties and joys of communicating with people from different countries. This prompted me to start working as an interpreter-guide after retiring from the automobile company. I think that the best way to know the local culture, food and history is to meet and talk with the locals. That's why I'm here. In my tour, as a descendant of a survivor of the atomic bomb, I talk about my family history. I myself love ramen and okonomiyaki, so I often go around trying delicious okonomiyaki and ramen restaurants. Why don't you join me in trying them?

Hello, I'm HIDEo YOSHIda. Please call me HIDEYOSHI, the same name as the famous shogun who built the Osaka Castle in 1585. I was born in Kobe and worked in Osaka for nearly 40 years. I would like to introduce the Kansai region to you ,including Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Wakayama. Kobe is one of the two largest ports in Japan, along with Yokohama. After the opening of the Port of Kobe in 1868, foreigners built their residences on the hillside of the Kitano-cho area, overlooking the ocean. Many of the foreign residences are now open to the public as museums, including the Weathercock House, with it's symbol weathercock on the triangle-shaped roof. In Meriken Park, the red Port Tower (the city's landmark), creates a beautiful contrast against the white Kobe Marine Museum. The museum's design was inspired by the waves and sailing ships. When you have a chance to visit Osaka, please join my tour. I'm sure you'll enjoy the interesting and historical, scenic spots. For example, Shin-Sekai is a downtown area with a strange mix of nostalgic atmosphere and contemporary energy. You can try local foods (kushikatsu, sushi, tempura) at a reasonable price. Billiken (a famous statue of the spirit of luck) will be waiting for you!!. Dotombori is a popular street with a lot of flashy signboards. Osaka is widely known as a "Kuidaore-no-machi", or literally "drinking and eating luxuriously to death." Osaka Castle was built by Toyotomi HIDEYOSHI in 1585. Oh, it's my residence, isn't it ! These days "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" area in USJ, or Universal Studios Japan, is also attracting more and more people. I'll be looking forward to seeing you !!
