“Big Day Out in Hiroshima ”

From the moment we met Miyu at the cruise terminal we knew we were in for a special day. She gave us plenty of options for transportation and lunch choices. First stop was Miyajima Island. She timed this stop because the tide was high which gave us the best view of the Tori Gate. Her knowledge of the shrine and temple enhanced our visit tenfold. After lunch we made our way to the Peace Park. Her knowledge of the atomic bomb site and her work with survivors of the blast helped us to empathise with what happened that day on 6th August 1945. Miyu even presented us with paper cranes that she and her grandson had made. The museum was closed so we took the option to visit a beautiful Japanese garden which was excellent. Miyu stayed with us until we were safely in a taxi heading back to our Cruise Ship Well done and many thanks Miyu.

“A Fabulous Day with a Fabulous Guide!”

Today we spent the day in Hiroshima with our fabulous guide, Hugh Cann. Hugh met us promptly on time at the terminal building at 8:30 am. He took us by a car to the peace memorial Park where the atomic bomb was dropped. Hugh is Australian living in Japan; he speaks Japanese fluently and is incredibly knowledgeable about both the culture and his subject which is tourism. We spent several hours exploring the park and trying to come to terms with the horror of what that represented. Next Hugh took us to lunch in one of his favourite restaurants. It was great fun and we enjoyed a delicious Hiroshima specialty called Okonomiyaki. After lunch we went to a very beautiful & (lesser known) temple called Miyaki - Dara. The gardens (even in winter) were spectacular We thoroughly recommend Hugh for a truly enjoyable, informative and different experience of the delightful city of Hiroshima.

“Magnificent experience”

The knowledge that Hugh has acquired over all the years in Japan and in this city, in my opinion, surpasses even that of the local guides. He explains all the facts of the places in such a good and fresh way that we Westerners can understand the transition to this wonderful culture without problems. There are no more open questions at the end of the tour, and we were overjoyed with his local suggestions, for example, for food. Hugh rocks. And I tell you this as a tour guide myself, doing tours for over 20 years in Europe. Bravo and thank you Hugh
