Ali S.
I am an English-speaking, licensed Egyptologist tour guide, born and raised in Luxor, with a true passion for sharing the treasures of my hometown and country with visitors from around the world. With years of experience working for leading international tour companies, I specialize in guiding travelers through Luxor and Upper Egypt, while also offering tours in Luxor, Aswan, Edfu, KomOmbo, Dendera, and Abydos, as well as other remarkable sites across Egypt. I believe that the finest monuments and stories of Egypt are found here in Upper Egypt, and it is my joy to bring this history and culture to life. For me, a tour guide is not simply a narrator but a storyteller — like an actor delivering a powerful message — who inspires guests through creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm. I offer tailor-made trips for individuals, families, and groups, carefully designed to match your interests and budget. Whenever possible, I personally accompany my guests to ensure a memorable experience. If another guide is required, I recommend only trusted colleagues who share the same high standards of professionalism and expertise. Guiding is not only my profession but also my passion: meeting new people, uncovering the wonders of Egyptian archaeology, showcasing authentic daily life, and creating unforgettable journeys through one of the world’s greatest civilizations. Let me help you experience the real Egypt—safely, comfortably, and memorably. I look forward to being your guide!

Maryem H.
Hi there! My name is Maryem, and I am a licensed tour guide, certified by the Egyptian Tourism Authority. Guiding is my passion. From a very young age, I have loved stories and languages the way they connect people across time and place, and Egypt is gladly full of those. I believe that knowledge and storytelling have the power to bring life back to silent stones and ancient buildings. They can transport us through time and, more importantly, connect people on a deeper level. At the end of the day, whether ancient or modern, we as people are not so different. No matter where you come from or what you believe, you can always find a part of yourself in these stories. That is what storytelling does—it gives history a heartbeat and makes it live again. Meeting people from different cultures and learning about their perspectives has always inspired me, and I feel very fortunate as an Egyptian, a land where history and culture are alive at every corner. I speak both English and Japanese, which allows me to connect with a wide range of visitors and share Egypt’s treasures in a way that feels personal and engaging. My goal as a guide is not only to present historical facts but also to bring them to life through storytelling, so that you can feel the spirit of ancient pharaohs, the beauty of Islamic Cairo, and the harmony of Egypt’s religious heritage. When you explore Egypt with me, I will show you the country through a local lens—blending the historical, cultural, and modern insights that make each city unique. From the timeless pyramids of Giza to the vibrant streets of Cairo and the coastal charm of Alexandria, I look forward to welcoming you and sharing my beloved country with you. You can contact me and customize your tour, feel free to reach me!

City of the Dead: A Heritage Walk Through Cairo’s Living Necropolis
Join me in a place full of life, art, and history as we explore the unique heritage of Cairo’s Necropolis. Known as the City of the Dead, this area defies its name—it is very much alive. Families live among the tombs, creating a rare landscape where daily life and memory coexist. Also called El Qarafa by Cairenes and the Mamluk Desert, it reflects one of Cairo’s most powerful eras. I call it "Game of Thrones" era as it's the bloodiest one. also it was the peak of art and architecture.

Egypt Tour Reviews
Michelangelo M.
“Exceptional Historical Depth at Dendera and Abydos”
Our third tour was a customized private visit to Dendera and Abydos with Ali, and it was outstanding. These sites reward deeper context, and Ali was exceptionally well suited for that. He was the most knowledgeable guide we had during our entire trip in Egypt, and his depth of understanding really stood out here in particular. Ali’s explanations were consistently deep and precise. He walked us through the temples in detail, down to specific carvings, inscriptions, and architectural choices, and was able to clearly answer every question we had. It never felt like a rehearsed presentation. The explanations were thoughtful, responsive, and grounded in genuine expertise. The tour itself was very well organized and comfortable, especially given the longer distance involved. Ali also checked in with us during the day to make sure we were happy with the pacing and the experience overall, which felt attentive without being intrusive. We booked a total of three tours with Ali, and after completing this final one, it’s easy to see why he’s so highly regarded. If you’re interested in going beyond the standard Luxor itinerary and want a guide who can engage with the history at a deep level, Ali is an excellent choice.

Ali S.
Thank you sincerely for such a detailed and generous review of your final tour. I’m truly honored by your kind words, especially regarding the visit to Dendera and Abydos. These temples are indeed sites that reveal their meaning through deeper context, symbolism, and careful observation, and I’m very pleased that the explanations resonated with you and matched the level of detail you were looking for. Your curiosity and thoughtful questions made the experience especially rewarding for me as a guide. I’m also glad to hear that the organization, comfort, and pacing of the day met your expectations, particularly given the longer distance involved. Checking in during the tour is something I value, as every private experience should feel balanced, comfortable, and tailored—never rushed or impersonal. It means a great deal to know that, after completing all three tours, you felt confident recommending my services, especially to travelers interested in moving beyond the standard itinerary and engaging deeply with Egypt’s history. Thank you for your trust throughout your time in Luxor and beyond. It was a real pleasure guiding you, and I hope to welcome you again for future explorations in Egypt. Warm regards, Ali

“Smart Timing Made a Real Difference at Karnak and Luxor”
This second tour was also originally booked with Ali and again covered by Mohammad while Ali was unavailable for serious family reasons. Ali continued to check in with us directly to make sure everything was running smoothly, which we appreciated. One particularly good decision was visiting the sites in reverse order. Mohammad suggested this specifically to avoid the sunset crowds, and it made a noticeable difference, especially at Karnak and Luxor Temple. Experiencing these sites with fewer crowds greatly improved the overall feel of the visit. The pacing worked very well for a private tour. Explanations were clear and focused, and we had space to walk, observe, and explore on our own without feeling rushed or over-managed. Everything ran smoothly from a logistics standpoint and felt planned rather than improvised. Ali later returned, and we completed our final tour with him, which provided a helpful point of comparison.

Thank you very much for sharing this thoughtful feedback about your second tour. I truly appreciate your understanding during my temporary unavailability, and I’m glad you felt well supported through my follow-up messages. Ensuring everything runs smoothly and meets your expectations is always very important to me. I’m especially pleased to hear that visiting the sites in reverse order made such a positive difference. Avoiding the sunset crowds at Karnak and Luxor Temple can completely change the atmosphere, and I’m glad Mohammad’s suggestion enhanced your experience. It’s also great to know that the pacing, clarity of explanations, and balance between guided insight and independent exploration suited your style of travel. Thank you as well for noting the smooth logistics and careful planning behind the tour. I’m delighted that we were able to complete your final tour together, and that this gave you a meaningful point of comparison. It was a real pleasure arranging and guiding your time in Luxor, and I sincerely hope to welcome you again in the future. Warm regards, Ali

“A History-First Visit to the Valley of the Kings and Queens”
We originally booked this private tour with Ali, who was unexpectedly unavailable for serious family reasons shortly before our visit. He handled the situation very professionally and arranged for Mohammad to cover the tour, and the transition was completely seamless. Ali also checked in with us directly by text to make sure everything was going well and that we were happy with the experience. Mohammad guided us through the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. We’re very history-focused travelers and fairly skeptical of surface-level tour commentary, but he adapted well once it was clear we were genuinely interested in Egyptian mythology. His explanations were structured and thoughtful, and he was happy to go deeper and answer detailed questions rather than sticking to a fixed script. In the Valley of the Kings we added the tombs of Tutankhamun and Ramses V & VI, and Mohammad did a good job explaining why these sites matter historically, not just what you’re looking at. We were also given plenty of time to explore independently at each site, which we really appreciated. Logistics were smooth throughout: private car, punctual pickup, and calm, safe driving. Despite the short-notice change, the tour felt well organized and thoughtfully run.
/filters:strip_exif()/fit-in/160x160/filters:quality(50)/gowithguide/profiles/78465/c66700fd-8c61-474d-a3eb-5eb2b6416bfd.png)
Ali S.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. I truly appreciate your understanding regarding my unexpected unavailability and am glad to hear that the transition was seamless and well organized. Ensuring a high-quality experience for our guests is always my top priority, even in challenging circumstances. I’m especially pleased to know that Mohammad met your expectations as history-focused travelers. Adapting the tour to your interests, providing deeper insight into Egyptian mythology, and allowing time for independent exploration are exactly the kind of experience we aim to offer. Your feedback about the Valley of the Kings and the additional tomb visits means a great deal to us. Thank you as well for highlighting the smooth logistics and overall organization. It was important to me to personally check in and make sure everything was going well, and I’m happy to know you were satisfied with the experience. It was a pleasure arranging this tour for you, and I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future. Warm regards, Ali

Can I tour Egypt on my own?
You can, but you shouldn’t if you’re a first time visitor. It won’t be as enjoyable, as there’s a learning curve when it comes to effectively touring Egypt. A legitimate local guide can show you the ropes, especially at tourist-heavy sites, where it can be hard to navigate the constant haggling and heavy calls to buy something.
Guides also act as a barrier between tourists and less considerate vendors. You won’t deal with aggressive sales tactics and pressure to buy a service or item.

Why can't you take pictures in Egypt?
You can, but there’s a catch. A law was passed relaxing street photography rules in 2022, so amateur photos are allowed as long as they aren’t of children, and don’t paint a negative image of the country, which is a gray area.
Why does this rule exist? The leadership’s paranoia after the 2011 Egyptian Revolution has led to stricter photography/journalism and video documentation laws in an effort to control the image of their country to the outside world.

What do Egyptians consider rude?
- Using your left hand to eat, greet someone, give gifts, receive gifts, or point at things. Egyptians see this hand as unclean, so it's reserved for personal activities like the toilet/washroom.
- Immodest dressing. Egypt is a conservative nation, so short shorts, short skirts, tank tops, crop tops and tight clothing is frowned upon, especially in religious settings.
- Salting your food.
- Pointing at things with your feet, heel or toes.
- Giving a thumbs up. This is an offensive gesture in most Arab nations.
- Not tipping after being provided a service.
- PDA.
