Hiking the Ferriere Valley in Amalfi is one of the uniquest opportunites to immerse yourself in rich nature and help you discover local history. Ferriere Valley is known for its lush flora, including giant ferns, mosses, and a variety of endemic plants.
Piazza San Giovanni, Pontone
- We will meet in Pontone near the Village of Scala: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z5tRoRnE5f7PyBPX8
We will pass through pretty alleys, continue downhill between walls bordering vegetable gardens and vineyards. Small ajar doors will allow a glimpse into citrus groves, protected by characteristic pergolas made of long chestnut poles.
We will come to a fork: we will take the left path to the Ferriera after passing over a small bridge. The building, now reduced to ruins, is huge and surmounts the valley with a wide arch under which the stream flows into a waterfall.
A beautiful waterfall and many specimens of the endemic fern Woodwardia radicans can be seen within the reserve.
Along the descent, skirting the stream that forms numerous rapids and small waterfalls, we pass the ruins of old paper mills that made Amalfi paper famous. Then begins the paved road that, among low walls and citrus groves, arrives in Amalfi.
