Tips
On this 3 hours customized private guided tour to Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum we’ll make a fascinating journey through the History of Art from the 13th to the 20th century.
In the nearly one thousand works on display, we’ll be able to contemplate the major periods and schools of western art, from the Renaissance through Mannerism, Baroque, Rococo, Romanticism and the art of the 19th and 20th centuries to Pop Art. We’ll marvel at works from some movements such as Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism and the experimental avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, and discover an important collection of 19th-century American painting which is unique among European museums.
This international collection, which is now state-owned, was originally private, the result of the exquisite taste of its two main creators, Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and his son, Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza.
The addition of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum created one of the most important concentrations of art in the world in the very heart of Madrid: together with the Prado Museum and the Museo Reina Sofía, the ‘Art Triangle’ was formed. Its collection of international paintings perfectly complements the old masters in the Prado Museum and the modern and contemporary paintings found in the Museo Reina Sofía, also offering an excellent sample of 19th century American paintings, which had been all but absent from European museums.
