All day Tokyo plus personalized services!

It was our good fortune to have booked an all day tour of Tokyo with Yasuro! From the hotel pickup, to sightseeing the historic and popular spots (with the additional request Meijijingu prearranged in the booking that he accommodated); and lastly, drop off at our dinner reservation…his personalized service was impressive! It was our first full day in Tokyo and learning the city’s complicated transportation system from Yasuro was extremely helpful, as we discovered trying to navigate on our own on subsequent days. Yasuro even assisted us with obtaining train tickets for an upcoming city transfer; again showing us a different aspect of Japan’s transportation network. Yasuro is full of energy, animated sharing his knowledge about Japanese culture and religion. When it was lunchtime he found us a cute, hole in the wall spot for sushi on a Tsukiji Market side street, very reasonably priced. We enjoyed touring with Yasuro and thank him for his exceptional service!

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Joanne Makishi, Thank you very much for the generous review for me. Yes, it was a wonderful day, especially in the evening at the lotus pond of Ueno Park where we could look shining Benten Shrine over thousands of the waving lotus leaves. Two days later, I made a Haiku at our Haiku gathering: As "Unagiya e, Arakawa koete, Aki no koe"; the translation is "Towards the eel restaurant, We crossed over Arakawa River, And heard the sound of Autumn". Thank you again. Best regards, Yasuro

It could have been better.

It was supposed to be a walking tour but I booked a private van because we were with my 90 yo dad and 6 yo grandson. I was expecting that guide would at least give us an introduction about Japan/Tokyo on the way to our first destination. I expected too that he would point out places of interest as we passed them by. He would not have talked to us about Kabuki if I did not ask about the Kabuki Theater. We went to Tsukiji but he just took us around. Granting that it was very crowded, he could have told us more about the market in one corner. After all, there were just 6 of us. He just identified the food we were looking at instead. We also went to the imperial Palace gardens and he told us a little about the place. His voice was not that powerful and his manner of explaining was not interesting enough. Even if we have not seen the other places listed in ou tour, we decided to just end it. I have been to Tokyo several times in the past and I really wanted to know more about it. That’s why I decided to take a private guided tour. I was quite disappointed. I apologize for this review but it is best for the guide to know areas he can improve on.

Japan

Hello! My name is Grant, and I’ve spent over a decade living and exploring Japan. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, I first came to Japan as a high school exchange student in Inuyama, a historic castle town in Aichi. My love for Japan began early—sparked by childhood games like Pokémon that were released in Japanese before English. This passion led me to pass the N2 Japanese Language Proficiency Test in 2018, study at language schools across Japan, and graduate from the Japan Visual Media Translation Academy. My work in translation and interpreting brought me into contact with notable figures in Japanese media. I’ve traveled to every prefecture in Japan, often using unlimited rail passes to explore castles, historic sites, and regional specialties. I’m particularly passionate about seafood and love traveling to places like Hokkaido and Niigata during the winter for the best crab and fatty yellowtail. I also enjoy visiting Japan's finest hot springs, especially in volcanic areas. My martial arts background includes five years of traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate, with multiple trips to the Ryukyu Islands, and experience in iaido, kyudo, and judo. I hold a degree in Asian Studies from a Tokyo university, and my extensive experience living in Tokyo has made me an expert on the city’s transportation system, hidden gems, and affordable eats. With over 30 visits to Kyoto, I have deep knowledge of its historical sites and the broader cultural landscape of Japan. Tour options: Half-Day Tour: 20,000 yen (4 hours) Full-Day Tour: 40,000 yen (8 hours) I can guide you through Tokyo, Kyoto, and other historical cities like Kanazawa, Nikko, and Kamakura. Rail fare outside Tokyo is additional. Let me show you the best of Japan!

Japan

I came to Japan in 1998, intending to stay a few months, but enjoying Japan, I never left. I was intrigued by the history, culture, language, and food. And the fascination and excitement of exploring and learning new things about Japan still exists with me today. The variety and choices of things to do and places to go can be overwhelming. I can offer you suggestions and a unique perspective on Japan. I can share local knowledge about things often missed. Fluent in Japanese with a master's degree in Japanese Studies and living in Japan for over 20 years, I can be your guide.
