Hi, I'm Takao Mizushima. I like walking with my friends in the mountains, along rivers and beaches, and visiting historical places and museums. Usually, after enjoying these places, we take a dip in hot springs and drink beer. As a guide, however, I'll take up places easy to walk around. I assume not many people from abroad are prepared for sweating activities. If you like, though, I can modify my plan, connecting with a short hiking, hot bath and a drinking place.

I’m so excited to have a chance to show you around my favorite spots in Kanagawa prefecture. I was born in Kanagawa. I spent my whole school life, including university, here in Kanagawa. I worked as a high school English teacher here for 40 years. I love Kanagawa so much. We have many interesting tourist spots, like Hakone, Kamakura, Enoshima and Yokohama. I got my tour guide license in English in 2009. I am still an English teacher. To give an interesting and impressive lesson to young high school students, I’ve learnt and gathered many kinds of information. I also have a license to teach social studies, so I have a wide range of knowledge about Japanese culture and history. I’m sure to provide you an interesting tour.

Hi! Welcome to Japan. My name is Shoji Kitamura, a licensed English-speaking tour guide. Please call me Shoji that is the same sound as a sliding screen made of wood and paper you may have seen in a traditional Japanese room. I was born and raised in Yokohama next to Tokyo but lived for work in several beautiful and historical cities such as Nikko, Hiroshima, and Ise which have world heritage sites and/or national park. I fully enjoyed the nature, culture and lives in each city where I lived. I retired after 36 years with a national research institute of fisheries in 2016. During my career, I visited 5 continents except Antarctica, more than 20 nations for attending international scientific conferences, conducting collaborative research or teaching some technologies, etc. In Japan, I often took foreign scientists and government officers sightseeing. I had great times in these opportunities. Such experiences made me decide to become a licensed English-speaking guide interpreter after retirement to introduce Japanese nature, culture, foods, etc. properly to many tourists coming to Japan from all over the world. For more than 20 years I’ve been living in Nikko, which is located about 150km north of Tokyo, and designated as a World Heritage site and a National Park. If you consider a day trip from Tokyo, I strongly recommend coming to Nikko by 2-hour train ride from Tokyo. I am looking forward to showing you around in this historical and beautiful town. Besides Nikko, I can also guide you in Yokohama, my home town, and in neighboring city such as Tokyo and Kamakura.

I was born in Osaka and grew up in Kobe. I study in Tokyo. I have much knowledge of Japanese history and I worked as a private teacher for high school students. I did many tour guides for my friend who come from China and Canada. I studied abroad in Canada for a year and felt that it was really helpful to have someone do your guide at a place you are unfamiliar with. I can speak both Chinese, English, and Japanese and I think it will be a big help for me to do the guide. I'm really flexible person.Just let me know what do you want to go, see, eat i'll make the best tour plan and take you to everywhere!

Kamakura is adorable with a lot of old temples and shrines. I have been there more than 100 times and enjoy seeing old structures, gardens, flowers every season and strolling around the town in the countryside. It is located west of Tokyo and accessible by train only for 40 minutes. And Enoshima is a holy island with a long history and legends. It's also popular among young couples and surfers because the island is beautiful. You can learn Japanese cultural aspects a lot there.

The town nestled in a rigorous atmosphere

Kamakura
7 hours

The Kamakura Shogunate was established in the contemporary Kamakura in 1192 by Minamoto-no-Yoritomo of Genji clan. It was the beginning of the samurai society in Japan. Yoritomo was not only competent in consolidating samurais roaming here and there looking for a master, but also in administrating of any entity. Hojo family, the successor of Yoritomo was also the same case. They not only put the emphasis on keeping up the regime, but also encouraged the Zen sect of Buddhism widely.

Kamakura Explore with Masa

We had the most amazing experience with a private full day tour with Masa. He is kind, engaging and so passionate about sharing his Kamakura knowledge. Communication prior to the tour was quick and he was flexible to allow us to start a bit earlier to fit in with other plans- this was great because it meant that at some places we could experience the temple without crowds. Although a busy day, we never felt rushed and as we used many backstreets got to experience a real sense of the town and its people. Million star rating if we could !! Thank you Masa - hope to see you again one day and explore Kamakura with you.

Wonderful tour with Kaneo U

We enjoyed our tour with Kaneo San thoroughly. He was very helpful and courteous on the messages before our trip and during the tour. He let us know beforehand that there are lots of walking involved and to wear comfy shoes and attire. He would wait for us throughout the trip (we walked slowly ; ) and told us the history and interesting story about the places. Thank you Kaneo San for sharing and guiding us. Thumbs up for your tour!

Thank you for your good review. You and your friends did really good in spite of too hot climate. I hope you enjoyed this walking tour and I have another chance to guide you in Japan.

Thank you so much!

Tomoko was an amazing guide. She catered for my mums energy levels and introduced everything so clearly. My mum had a great time taking in the views of Kamakura. Tomoko went the extra mile to check in with me the day before the tour to make sure everything was sorted. Will definitely need Tomoko's help next time mum is in town. Thank you so so much.

Tomoko H.

Thank you for your prompt review, Yue-san! It was a very hot day and there were many stairs on Enoshima, but we used the escalator and went up comfortably. We had planned to return by boat, but it was suddenly cancelled due to strong winds. We were relieved to be able to return via a back road with no stairs. Your mum and her friend were so nice telling me 'It's not your fault':) Then, we had a pleasant time in the shade of the trees at the Great Buddha. They were eagerly looking at the map on the train back. I'm looking forward to guiding them next time they come back. Thank you again!
