About Tour Guide Tomoya H.
Your Expert Trekking Partner in Japan – From Mt. Fuji to Hidden Local Trails
Searching for a trekking guide who knows Japan’s terrain inside out? Look no further! Born in Osaka and raised by nature-loving parents, my passion for the outdoors began early with a youth spent hiking, fishing, camping, and skiing.
As a JMGA-certified Trekking Guide (Stage II), I have led diverse groups across Japan—from the rugged peaks of the North to the lush trails of the South—and even on international routes. When I’m not guiding professionally, you’ll find me on my "home turf," the Rokko Mountains, where I explore the trails daily.
Whether you're looking for an iconic ascent of Mt. Fuji or a spiritual journey along the Kumano Kodo (Nakahechi & Kohechi), I ensure a safe, seamless, and deeply enriching experience.
Custom tours are always welcome. Let’s hit the trail together!

Sacred mountain trekking at Mt. Miwa
O-miwa Shrine is known to be the oldest shrine in Japan and Japanese Shinto. Mt. Miwa stands just behind O-miwa Shrine because it is the sacred mountain as well as the object of worship, which is said to be reserving the primitive style of Japanese Shinto and Shrine.

Kumano-Kodo Choishi-michi/One day tour
Walk one of World Heritage Kumano-Kodo trails "Choishi-michi" which is nearest to Osaka and Kyoto. It is an antient access way to Koyasan fonded by the great monk Kukai. Its name is coming from the 180 stupas (Choishi) stand along the trail, which people have been prayed to. The total distance is 22km, takes roughly 7 hours without transportation/rest if you have good physical ability. The trail mostly keeps its original style when opened.

Mt. Rokko to Arima Onsen trekking tour
Mt. Rokko which stands just behind Kobe city is one of most popular trekking areas for locals! Despite being so close to the city, the trails are full of nature and show varieties of the landscape. We go up rocky hills, cross the waterfall and rivers. After going over steeper ascent, there are superb panoramic view of Kobe and Osaka which is said to be worth 10M dollars! Then we finish our trip at one of the oldest spa areas Arima Onsen.

Amazing Kyoto Night View Trekking from Sacred Mountain
See the wonderful night view of sparkling Kyoto from the sacred mountain. Kyoto, one of the oldest cities where tradition and modern technology co-exist but only a few know that Kyoto is a city surrounded by abundant nature and mountains close to it. On this tour, we start our hike from the trailhead just the corner of the city center. The trail is well maintained, and in just around 30 minutes hike, you will be encountering superb bird view of Kyoto, then wait for the sunset with a cup of tea.

“Kyoto tour”
Our tour guide in Japan, Tomo-san, was absolutely wonderful, knowledgeable, so nice, kind, and genuinely helpful. He really knew his stuff and shared so many interesting stories and facts that made everything come alive. What stood out the most was how thoughtful and patient he was, always making sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. It felt like we were exploring Japan with a friend.

Gigi, It was so amazing to see you and your brilliant boys, and it is my great honor to take you to the places I love. But this is just an entrance. I hope we will be touring again next spring to hunt Japanese Sakura cherry blossom in full bloom! Thank you so much!

Kyoko K.
Hi, I’m Kyoko. I was born and raised in Kobe. After completing my education, I spent 25 years in London, where I taught piano and enjoyed a wonderful life in England. I returned to Kobe a couple of years ago to care for my elderly father and began a new chapter in my career as a tour guide. Kobe has recovered beautifully since the major earthquake 30 years ago. It is much quieter than Kyoto and Osaka, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your time in Japan. I would love to show you the beautiful scenery of Kobe, from its mountains to its seaside. My typical tour starts at the herb gardens on the mountaintop, continues through the city center and Chinatown, and finishes at Harborland, a famous spot for photos and stunning views. It would be my pleasure to help you create wonderful memories in Kobe. I look forward to welcoming you on my tour.

Shawn D.
My name is Shawn. I am American and I have been living in Japan for the last 15 years. What started as a chapter became a life, and Japan has shaped who I am in ways I am still discovering. I guide exclusively in English. After 15 years as a foreigner navigating this country, I understand what genuinely moves Western visitors, what surprises them, and most importantly, the difference between a quality experience and a tourist trap. I will always steer you toward the real thing. I am based in Kobe, a city that most tourists fly straight past on their way to Osaka and Kyoto. That is their loss and your opportunity. Kobe is a relaxed, walkable port city with a character unlike anywhere else in Japan. Yes, the Kobe beef is world class. But Kobe is also one of the most historically rich and visually beautiful cities in the country, without the overwhelming crowds you will find elsewhere. I know this city and this region deeply. From Kobe, Kyoto and Osaka are both reachable in well under an hour by train. That puts you at the center of the best region in Japan without the noise and chaos of staying in a major tourist hub. I cover the full Kansai region and beyond, from famous landmarks and cultural sites to the strictly local places most visitors never find. I am also available for early morning and late evening tours. Some of the most memorable experiences in Japan happen when the crowds are gone. Every tour is planned around you. Tell me what matters and I will build the day around it. Come find out what Japan means to you. Shawn
