Ibn Tulun Mosque

The Ibn Tulun Mosque is one of the most important and well-preserved Islamic monuments in Cairo. It is located in Islamic Cairo. The mosque was built between 876 and 879 AD by Ahmad Ibn Tulun, the founder of the Tulunid dynasty, and is the oldest mosque in Cairo to survive largely in its original form.

The mosque reflects the Abbasid architectural style, inspired by the great mosques of Iraq. It is known for its vast open courtyard surrounded by arcades, creating a strong sense of space and harmony. Unlike later mosques with heavy decoration, Ibn Tulun Mosque features simple yet powerful design elements, including geometric forms, carved stucco, and rhythmic arches, which highlight early Islamic architectural principles.

One of its most distinctive features is the spiral minaret, unique in Egypt, which offers panoramic views over Islamic Cairo for those who climb it. Despite its historical importance, the mosque remains a calm and spiritual place, still used for daily prayers.

Visiting the Ibn Tulun Mosque allows guests to step back into medieval Cairo and gain insight into early Islamic religion, architecture, and urban life, making it an essential stop on any Islamic Cairo tour.

09:00 AM

Citadel of Saladin

The Citadel of Salah El-Din is one of Cairo’s most important Islamic landmarks and a symbol of medieval Islamic power. It is located on the Mokattam Hills and offers spectacular panoramic views over Cairo. The citadel was built between 1176 and 1183 AD by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) as a fortress to protect the city from Crusader attacks. For nearly 700 years, it served as the seat of government and residence of Egypt’s rulers.

The citadel complex contains several important monuments, the most famous being the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also known as the Alabaster Mosque. Built in the 19th century, its large domes and tall minarets dominate Cairo’s skyline and represent Ottoman-style architecture. Inside, visitors admire the spacious prayer hall, decorative details, and hanging lamps.

In addition to the mosque, the citadel includes museums, courtyards, and historic palaces that reflect different periods of Islamic rule, including the Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman eras. Walking through the citadel allows visitors to understand Cairo’s military, political, and religious history in one location.

A visit to the Citadel of Salah El-Din is a highlight of any Islamic Cairo tour, combining history, architecture, and breathtaking views, while offering deep insight into the city’s strategic importance and rich Islamic heritage.

11:00 AM

Khan El Khalili

Khan El-Khalili is Cairo’s most famous traditional bazaar and one of the oldest marketplaces in the Middle East. It is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo and dates back to the 14th century, when it was established during the Mamluk period as a center for trade and commerce. For centuries, merchants from across the Islamic world gathered here to sell goods, making it a vital hub of economic and social life.

Today, Khan El-Khalili is known for its lively atmosphere and narrow streets filled with shops selling spices, perfumes, handmade crafts, jewelry, lamps, textiles, and souvenirs. Visitors can watch skilled artisans at work and experience traditional bargaining, which is an important part of the local culture. The area is also home to historic cafés, such as El Fishawy Café, where guests can relax and enjoy tea or coffee in a setting that has welcomed travelers for generations.

Walking through Khan El-Khalili offers a true taste of old Cairo, combining history, culture, and daily life. It is an essential stop on any Islamic Cairo tour, providing visitors with a memorable and authentic shopping and cultural experience.

12:00 PM

Al-Muizz li-Din Allah Street

Al-Muizz Street, also known as Al-Muizz li-Din Allah Street, is one of the oldest and most important streets in Cairo and is often described as the largest open-air museum of Islamic architecture in the world. It is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo and was established in the 10th century during the Fatimid period, forming the main ceremonial avenue of the historic city.

The street is lined with an extraordinary collection of Islamic monuments, including mosques, madrasas, palaces, sabils, and mausoleums from different Islamic eras, especially the Fatimid, Ayyubid, and Mamluk periods. Walking along Al-Muizz Street allows visitors to clearly see the development of Islamic architecture over more than a thousand years in one continuous setting.

Among its highlights are historic gates, beautifully decorated mosques, and traditional houses that once belonged to wealthy merchants and rulers. The street has been carefully restored, making it pedestrian-friendly and ideal for guided walking tours. In the evening, special lighting enhances the monuments and creates a magical atmosphere.

A visit to Al-Muizz Street offers deep insight into Cairo’s religious, social, and architectural history and is an essential part of any Islamic Cairo tour, connecting major sites such as Khan El-Khalili with the city’s most important historic landmarks.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is one of Egypt’s most important modern museums, located in Old Cairo near Ain El-Sira Lake. Opened to present Egypt’s heritage in a comprehensive and contemporary way, the museum tells the story of Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the modern era, highlighting the continuity of Egyptian culture over thousands of years.

Unlike other museums that focus mainly on ancient pharaonic artifacts, this museum presents all historical periods, including Pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and modern Egypt. Its well-organized galleries use objects, multimedia displays, and clear explanations to help visitors understand how Egyptian society, beliefs, crafts, and daily life evolved through time.

One of the museum’s most famous sections is the Royal Mummies Hall, which displays a collection of royal mummies in a solemn and atmospheric setting designed to reflect the importance and dignity of ancient Egyptian kings and queens. This hall offers a unique opportunity to come face to face with some of the most powerful rulers of ancient Egypt.

The museum provides an excellent introduction to Egypt’s long and rich history and is ideal for visitors of all ages. With its modern presentation and educational approach, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is an essential stop for anyone wishing to gain a deeper and broader understanding of Egypt beyond the monuments alone.

The Nile Dinner Cruise

The Nile Dinner Cruise is a relaxing and enjoyable evening experience that offers a unique perspective of Cairo by night. Sailing along the legendary Nile River, guests can admire the city’s illuminated skyline, famous bridges, and riverside landmarks while enjoying a calm and comfortable atmosphere on board.

The cruise usually lasts about two hours and includes a buffet dinner featuring a variety of Egyptian and international dishes. During the cruise, guests are entertained with live performances such as belly dancing, traditional Tanoura (whirling dervish) show, and live music, providing a lively introduction to Egyptian culture and folklore.
