Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Catacombs?

The catacombs are ancient cemeteries mostly for "poor" people who did not have money for private monumental tombs. Being most of the early christians poor this is where they buried their deads. Among them some later were considered saints so now these areas are Vatican shrines.

What is the Porchetta?

Porchetta is an entire young pig rosted during the night and served the next day: very tasteful!

What is a Fraschetta?

The name comes from "Frascas", the brenches of the trees under which people like to sit on summer time and enjoy some shade while drinking some very good local wine and eating some very good street or finger food (cheese, ham, of course Porchetta, Pasta, etc)

What is the Apostolic Palace of Castelgandolfo?

This is the place where, since the XVI hundreds, Popes spent their summer time: being by a lake and on top of a vulcano, on summer is much cooler then Rome. Pope Francesco is not coming here, but, to compensate local shop keepers, he opens quite often the Palace to visitors
