Hello,

I invite you to visit the fascinating city of Milan with its various architectural and historical monuments: medieval and Renaissance, Neoclassical, contemporary....

Milan combines history and art, music and fashion, numerous museums and good food. We will visit such highlights as the Cathedral and Sforza Castle, the splendid Vittorio Emanuele gallery, the world famous La Scala theatre museum and Porta Nuova district: the spirit of Modern Milan.

Meeting Point

Piazza alla Scala: 10.00

10:00 AM

Meeting point: La Scala square (Piazza alla Scala)

Piazza alla Scala is one of the most beautiful squares of Milan, with its imposing buildings from various centuries.

It's main attraction is surely Il Teatro alla Scala, a prestigious European opera theatre. Milan's reputation in the world of music was already established when in 1776 the architect Giuseppe Piermarini began the construction of La Scala opera house.

We will visit the La Scala theatre museum for its rich collection of items relating to the activities of the theatre, paintings and ancient musical instruments and to admire the sumptuos decoration of the legendary theater.

11:00 AM

Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. Cathedral square (Piazza Duomo).

A monumental arch provides access from the La Scala square to the Vittorio Emanuele gallery with its luxurious boutiques, historic restaurants and bars. This is one of the most attractive architectural monuments of the 19th century Milan: an octagonal space being topped with an imposing glass dome, lavish decoration and finest mosaics.

The majestic Cathedral square is the symbolic heart of Milan. It has constituted the fulcrum of the city's religious and civic life since the ancient Roman and medieval eras.

11:20 AM

Duomo (Cathedral).

The Duomo is the largest Gothic building in Italy, the history of its construction and decoration lasted for six centuries.

The Cathedral surprises by the stupendous blossoming of flying buttresses, wealth of sculptural ornamentation, stained-glass windows and its interior decoration.

The roof of Duomo, providing an excellent panorama of Milan, boasts a rich profusion of flying arches, pinnacles, statues and spires, including the main spire with the statue of Our Lady crowning the Renaissance dome.

The early Christian archaeological excavations with remains of an old baptistery can also be seen today.

12:40 PM

Milan center, the Cathedral square area.

Lunch time.

There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in the center of Milan, with a choice of food from the traditional pizza and pasta to typical Milanese dishes as well as delicious pastries, ice-cream and a variety of drinks.

01:40 PM

Mercanti square, Cordusio square, Dante street.

Before proceeding along Dante street (via Dante), we will stop at Mercanti square, the center of the medieval city-state which preserves interesting architecture from different historical epochs, and at Cordusio square - Milan's finacial center with its imposing eclectic buildings.

Via Dante is an elegant pedestrian street and the pulsating core of Milan, with its 19th century fine residences, the Piccolo theatre, restaurants and cafés.

02:10 PM

Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco). Sempione park.

We will visit the courtyards of this majestic medieval castle that counts more than six centuries of history: from a medieval fortress to a sumptuous residence of Milan’s dukes, a fortified stronghold of the foreign rulers of Milan and a perfectly restored architectural

monument housing prestigious cultural institutions.

I would also suggest to walk through the Sempione park, the former hunting grounds of Milan’s dukes, laid out in the English style, and to admire the majestic Neoclassical Arch of Peace that marks the beginning of the first stretch of the Napoleonic highway to France.

02:50 PM

Corso Garibaldi, Corso Como.

We will proceed from the Castle to the nearby Corso Garibaldi and Corso Como to have a pleasant walk along one of the oldest streets in Milan.

This is a nice pedestrian area with cafes and restaurants, trendy shops and art galleries, but also with historical monuments: the majestic Neoclassical Porta Garibaldi gate and medieval churches.

03:40 PM

Porta Nuova district, Piazza Gae Aulenti.

Built during the Napoleonic era, Porta Nuova is today the most contemporary, trendiest and vibrant district in Milan, a perfect spot to explore the new soul of the city. The urban revitalization project involved several internationally renowned architectural companies.

The heart of the area is the square, dedicated to the Italian architect and designer Gae Aulenti, and crowned by glass skyscrapers. From here one can enjoy the skyline of the new city and its innovative buildings.

Ending Point

Piazza Gae Aulenti. Ending time: approximately 16.00
