Embark on a captivating journey to Echizen City, where you'll delve into the rich heritage and traditions of two renowned Japanese crafts: Echizen Washi paper and Echizen knives.
Echizen-Takefu Station
- Shinkansen Station
The goddess of paper is enshrined in this area. The architectural style of the main hall is unlike any other in Japan. It is well known among architects for its unique and distinctive form. Visiting in person is the best way to view the main hall and absorb the peaceful atmosphere of the shrine grounds.
Let's visit the Washi Paper Maker and witness the traditional making process.
We will walk through a village with a high concentration of Echizen washi paper studios. On the way, we will stop at a paper museum, a crafts museum (where tools used for making washi are on display), and a gift store.
Visitors can observe blacksmiths and sharpeners at work in this joint workshop of Echizen Uchihamono, a group of 13 cutlery companies. There is also a store where you can also purchase knives.
