Although the weather was not always good, however I am pleased that with everyone's cooperation we were able to complete the course safely. I especially admire and appreciate your mother's hard work. Even though her hands and feet were not in her usual condition. I was even more surprised to hear that she was 90 years old. It was a great honor for me to spend those two days with you, learning together about the Battle of Okinawa. Since the information commonly shared in Japan and the United States about the battle can sometimes be quite different, I felt it was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to learn from each other’s perspectives. In particular, I am very grateful to Bob-san for sharing many insights from the perspective of American soldiers—things that are rarely written in books available in Japan. For example, I had always thought the Japanese Nambu gun was simply an outdated weapon, so I was surprised to learn from him that its rapid-fire capability actually made it something many American soldiers feared.
