Mt. Tsukuba - One of famous mountains in Japan

From old times, it has been said “Mt. Tsukuba in the east and Mt. Fuji in the west."

A famous and easy-to-reach mountain in Japan! It has two tops and looks beautiful, sometimes glowing purple color in sun raise and sun set. You can see amazing views of the big Kanto landscape from up high. Don't want to walk? Just take the cable car or ropeway straight to the top. It's a great trip for anyone who loves nature, mountain view beyond Tokyo can see!

Mt. Tsukuba & Tsukuba Shrine

Tsukuba Shrine (筑波山神社): Exploring the historic Tsukuba Shrine at the base of the mountain. It's a beautiful and sacred site, and often the starting point for hikes.

Choose Your Ascent Method & Start Hiking

Option 1: Full Hike (Miyukigahara Course): For a moderate challenge, start hiking from Tsukuba Shrine via the Miyawaki Cable Car Station. The trail generally parallels the cable car. This route takes about 90 minutes to reach Miyukigahara (the saddle between the two peaks). It can be steep and rocky in sections.

Option 2: Combined Cable Car/Hike: Take the Cable Car from Miyawaki Station (near Tsukuba Shrine) to Tsukuba-sancho Station (Miyukigahara). This saves time and energy, allowing more exploration at the top. The cable car runs every 20 minutes from 9:20 AM.

Summit Exploration & Lunch

Mt. Nantai (男体山): From Miyukigahara, it's a relatively short (around 10-15 minute) hike to the summit of Mt. Nantai (871m). Enjoy panoramic views of the Kanto Plain. On clear days, you might even spot Mt. Fuji. There's a shrine at the peak. You can also walk the Nature Research Trail (1.4 km loop, ~60 mins) around Nantai Peak.

Mt. Nyotai (女体山): Hike the Mountaintop Connection Trail (about 850m, 30 minutes one way) between Mt. Nantai and Mt. Nyotai. Mt. Nyotai (877m) is the higher of the two peaks. It offers different stunning views and unique rock formations. There is also a shrine at this peak.

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Lunch at the Summit

There are shops and small cafes at Miyukigahara (Tsukuba-sancho Station) where you can buy snacks, drinks, and simple meals. Enjoy the views while you refuel.

Choose Your Descent Method

Option 1: Full Hike (Shirakumobashi Course): If you're feeling energetic and want a different route, descend from Nyotai Peak via the Shirakumobashi Course to Tsutsujigaoka. This trail is known for its interesting rock formations and takes about 95 minutes. From Tsutsujigaoka, you can take a bus back to Tsukuba Shrine area if needed.

Option 2: Combined Ropeway/Hike: Take the Ropeway from Nyotai Peak Station down to Tsutsujigaoka Station. This is a scenic and less strenuous option. The ropeway also runs every 20 minutes.

Option 3: Cable Car back down: If you hiked both peaks from Miyukigahara, you can return to Tsukuba-sancho Station and take the cable car back down to Miyawaki Station.

Let's enjoy your hiking adventure on Mt. Tsukuba!

About Tour Guide Andy L.

Hello! I’m Your Friendly Guide to Japan’s Kanto Region

I’m based in the beautiful Tochigi Prefecture and absolutely love sharing Japan’s amazing culture, history, and hidden spots with visitors like you. Before doing tour guiding, I was a public school teacher, so I’m great at making stories come alive and helping you really connect with the places we visit.

I speak Japanese at an advanced level (N2), and I’ve spent a lot of time exploring Japan—from living a year in the peaceful town of Kamishihoro in Hokkaido to wandering the bustling streets of Tokyo. This means I can give you insider tips and deep insights that go beyond the usual tourist trails.

*What I Offer*

I mainly guide around the Kanto area, which includes Tokyo, Yokohama, Saitama, Ibaraki, Gunma, and of course, Tochigi. Here are some of the fun tours I can take you on:

- **Utsunomiya Cultural Immersion:** Spend a day discovering the unique charm and tasty eats of Utsunomiya.

- **Tokyo All-in-One:** Explore both East and West Tokyo in a single day for a full city experience.

- **Anime & Pop Culture Tours:** Tailor-made adventures based on your favorite shows, games, and characters.

- **Kanto Day Trips:** Visit iconic spots like Nikko’s stunning temples or Kamakura’s historic sites.

I also love guiding in other parts of Japan, especially Kyoto—I’ve seen every World Heritage Site there! Plus, I often run tours in Osaka, Nara, Nagoya, Hikone, and more, all easy to reach by train.

*Customize Your Journey*

Every tour is flexible and designed just for you. To make your trip even more memorable, I’ll create a free, beautifully crafted photo album with music from your tour—perfect for sharing or keeping as a souvenir.

Ready to explore Japan in a fun, relaxed way with someone who’s passionate about showing you the real stories behind every place? Let’s chat and start planning your perfect adventure!
