Izura Coast, Kita-Ibaraki City (Or Hananuki Valley,Takahagi City)
You can choose one from following two popular spots in Northern Ibaraki area.
(Izura Coast)
The history of the Izura Coast dates back to the Meiji era. Tenshin Okakura, a famous thinker at the time, was fascinated by the beautiful coastline scenery and moved from Tokyo to Izura, where he invited many Japan painters to support their creative activities. Thanks to the artistic activities of our predecessors, the land of Izura, which is characterized by the Rias Coast, became known throughout Japan.
By the way, Tenshin built a hexagonal building named Rokkakudo as a place of contemplation along the coast. During the 2011 earthquake, the building was completely swept away by the tsunami, but was rebuilt a few years later using locally sourced wood. Please enjoy this beautiful view.
There is an Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of Art on the hill in Izura. Here you can enjoy Tenshin's achievements and Japan painters. In addition, this museum building is the work of Hiroshi Naito, a famous designer, and is very highly regarded as an attractive architecture.
(If we have time, I will also guide you to a nice café with an ocean view, where frozen cheesecake is popular.)
(Hananuki Valley)
Hananuki Valley is a famous place for autumn leaves that has been growing in popularity in the past few years. The view from the 60-meter-long suspension bridge over the valley is spectacular. The best time to see the autumn leaves is around the end of November.
JR Hitachi Station(See you off)
Hitachi City is a company town of Hitachi, Ltd. .The rows of cherry blossom trees in front of the station are famous all over the country. The new Hitachi station building was built in 2011 with the design by Kazuyo Sejima, a well-known local Hitachi-born architect. The view of the Pacific Ocean from the beautiful glass-covered building is spectacular, and many tourists visit Hitachi just to see the station building itself.
A street piano is installed at the station. If you want, please enjoy the performance in a wonderful space.
If you take the Limited Express Hitachi departing from Hitachi Station at 4:02 pm, you will arrive at Tokyo Station at 5:43 pm.
If you take the local train departing from Hitachi Station at 4:11 pm, you will arrive at Mito Station at 4:41 pm.

Izumi Shrine is the oldest shrine in the Hitachi region, and the highlights are the beautiful springs in the precincts and the fallen tree in the shape of dragon. Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon of the Chinese zodiac, many people from all over Japan visit the shrine as a shrine that brings good luck. Hello. My name is Go ,a national certified guide-interpreter. I live in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. Iwaki, about 180 km northeast of Tokyo, is a seaside city blessed with the mild climate and the gateway to the Tohoku district. My favorite things are gardening and listening jazz and fusion. I am a big fan of Hirotaka Izumi, a proficient pianist. I had lived in Auckland,NZ for a year and a half. As a local,I will show great sights of Ibaraki and Fukushima to visitors with sincerity.

“Fukushima Coastal Tour”
I spent an amazing day with Go. He picked me up at my hotel and was on time. He took me to some awesome spots that I really enjoyed. It was one of my favourite parts of my trip as I got to see a side of Japan that you don’t see in the major cities. Go had the itinerary all laid out and I never felt rushed exploring the whole day. I went solo with him and his English is excellent.

Charles-san, I'm really glad you enjoyed the tour. I’ve learned a lot from you through the tour. I will continue to strive for a better tour. I look forward to seeing you again in the future. Thank you very much. Go
“Fukuroda falls”
Had a great day with Go-san, he helped us to arrange for the taxis and tea ceremony session with Chanosanto park. Unfortunately, Namase falls was too many steps and challenging, so we did not manage to see. Fukuroda falls was amazing! We ended the tour at an old cafe since the lacquerware shop is closed.
