About Tour Guide Michiko N.

Hello, I am Michiko , the same name of Japanese ex-Empress. I am a government certified tour guide.

I have lived in Nagoya ( located between Tokyo and Osaka) for 35 years since I got married.

I worked for JAL as a flight attendant in my 20's. After retiring JAL, I have taught English and Mathematics to junior and senior high school students for 20 years.

I love traveling very much both domestically and abroad and enjoy walking around each city and talking with local people so that I can find out the way how to they live and think about their life. It's quite a fun for me. I also love hiking and mountain climbing in spring, summer and autumn, and skiing in winter.

In the countryside of Japan there still remain those farming and fishery villages where people have been rooted in their land and community, living the way handed down from generation to generation.

You can also enjoy the original Japanese landscape there.

Why don't you get out of the hustle and bustle of your busy life and have a rest rich in nature in the rural Japan enjoying beautiful scenery and local food.

I'm waiting for you!

A wonderful day in Nagoya with a wonderful guide

We arrived in Nagoya mid-morning on our cruise ship and had only a limited amount of time to tour. We didn't want to be late but the ship did not announce when we had been cleared by the port authorities to get off. We waited and finally decided to just go and, of course, people were already getting off. Michiko-san said she would wait for us and there she was with her bright smile, waving a sign with my name. In order to save time on our sort port day she had arranged for her husband Hiroshi-san to be our driver instead of using public transportation. Unfortunately today was our first day of rain in more than 2 weeks in Japan. We carry small very compact unbrellas but no problem. Hiroshi-san carried 4 large domed umbrellas for all of us throughout the day. How nice. Our first stop was Nagoya castle where the cherry blossoms were in bloom. - so beautiful. Although the castle is closed for renovations, we visited Hommaru Palace where Michiko-san explained the various rooms and significant details - stunning. Then it was time for a delicious lunch and relaxation. Our next stop was a special request. A visit to Tokuen World, one of the largest collections of swords and samurai armor in Japan. We could have spent many more hours here, especially my husband. The collection, only part of which is on display at any one time, is absolutely fabulous. Due to the crowds and some waiting time at the palace and for lunch, we decided to forego a visit to Osu Kannon temple and the adjacent shopping area. Sometimes you just cannot do everything and there is so much to see in Japan but we needed to be back onboard the ship in a timely manner. But the best part of our day was the time spent with our lovely, delightful hostess Michiko-san and host Hiroshi-san. It will be a treasured memory of our time in Nagoya and Japan.

Tour of the Sekigahara battlefield and museum from Nagoya

We had a truly wonderful day with Michiko on our recent holiday to Japan. From the point of pick up at our hotel in Nagoya to our return their that evening everything ran smoothly. Michiko was so knowledgeable about this period of history which was just what we wanted. She was such an enjoyable companion that day and we had so many laughs together. The battlefield and museum are well worth visiting. The museum has some fabulous displays of Samurai armour and artefacts and there is a really good cafe there too. The battlefield site is easily accessible - we hired electric bikes from the museum. Thank you Michiko for giving us such a great day!
