This full-day walking tour takes you through ancient temples surrounded by nature, quiet forest trails known mostly to locals, and ends with a stunning sunset view over the ocean and Mt. Fuji. Meeting Point
Kamakura station
- Our journey begins at Kamakura Station, where we’ll step into the lively Komachi Street, a charming shopping lane filled with local snacks, handmade souvenirs, and cozy cafés. As we walk through, you’ll get a taste of everyday Kamakura life — from traditional sweets to the scent of grilled mochi in the air. The street leads directly toward Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
We’ll begin our journey at Kamakura’s spiritual heart — Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, founded by the first shogun, Minamoto no Yoritomo. This grand shrine stands as a symbol of samurai heritage and the deep connection between Shinto and nature. Surrounded by ponds, torii gates, and ancient trees, it’s the perfect introduction to Kamakura’s history.
Kencho-ji Temple
Next, we’ll visit Kencho-ji, the oldest Zen temple in Kamakura. Its peaceful grounds, tall cedar trees, and impressive Sanmon gate invite you to slow down and breathe in the calm spirit of Zen. From here, we can take a quiet forest trail that leads uphill, where on clear days Mt. Fuji appears in the distance.
Meigetsu-in Temple
Next we’ll stop at Meigetsu-in, often called the “Hydrangea Temple.” It’s famous for its circular window that perfectly frames the garden beyond — a picture of seasonal beauty and Zen simplicity. This temple captures the elegance of Japanese aesthetics in every detail.
Jōchi-ji Temple
Hidden among the trees, Jōchi-ji is a small but deeply atmospheric Zen temple — one of the Five Great Temples of Kamakura. It’s known for its rustic charm, moss-covered stone paths, and the gentle sound of nature all around.
Zeniarai Benzaiten Shrine
A sacred cave shrine where people wash their money in a holy spring to invite good fortune. Reached through tunnels and narrow forest paths, this hidden gem has a mysterious and spiritual atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Kamakura.
Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kotoku-in Temple)
Standing peacefully under the open sky for more than 750 years, the Great Buddha of Kamakura is one of Japan’s most iconic symbols. This 13-meter bronze statue once sat inside a temple hall, which was later swept away by a tsunami — leaving the Buddha open to the elements ever since. The result is a breathtaking sight of quiet strength and serenity. We’ll take our time here to feel its calm atmosphere, learn about its history, and enjoy the balance between nature and spirituality that defines Kamakura.
Hase Station
After exploring Kamakura’s temples and shrines, we’ll board the charming Enoden train — a small, historic railway that runs along the coastline. The train ride offers a unique perspective of the area: scenic ocean views on one side, quaint streets and local homes on the other. You’ll feel the rhythm of coastal Japan as the train winds past beaches, bridges, and lush hills. This short but unforgettable ride is part of the experience, giving you a taste of local life while heading toward Enoshima Island.
Enoshima Island
Our final destination is Enoshima — a small island that beautifully combines history, spirituality, and the sea. We’ll cross the bridge with the ocean breeze around us, explore shrines dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of art and fortune, and wander through charming alleys lined with local food stalls and cafés. The island also has mysterious sea caves and viewpoints offering spectacular views of the coastline. As the day ends, we’ll watch the sunset over Sagami Bay, and if the weather is kind, see Mt. Fuji glowing in the distance — the perfect way to close our Kamakura journey.

Hello, my name is Mikhail.
I’ve been living in Japan for three years. I studied here, learned the language to JLPT N1 level, and became deeply familiar with the culture and everyday life. I speak English fluently and worked as a guide for a Japanese company for one year, mainly with English-speaking travelers.
I truly love Japan — especially Tokyo, a city I know not just by its landmarks but also by its unique atmosphere. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion, guiding people through both famous sights and hidden local spots that most visitors never see.
I love meeting new people and believe that every tour should feel personal, fun, and memorable.
