Kamakura Express: Hidden Lanes & Great Buddha Private Walk (4 Hours)
Want to see Kamakura without the heavy tour-bus crowds?
Based on my 15 years living here, I’ll show you the best highlights while skipping the chaotic traffic. I love walking—it's how you truly notice hidden side streets! We’ll visit the Great Buddha and ride the retro Enoden train (famous spots we'll share with others!), before escaping into quiet residential back alleys.
We'll end with a stunning ocean view at Joju-in Temple, leaving your afternoon free to relax by the beach!

Meeting Point
Yokohama's main cruise terminal (Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal)
- I will be standing near the clock tower. If you are coming from Tokyo, please take the JR Yokosuka Line or Shonan-Shinjuku Line directly to Kamakura Station.
• Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
We begin our morning with a walk down the grand majestic avenues of Kamakura’s most important samurai shrine. You will learn about the legends of the ancient Minamoto clan before we catch the nostalgic green Enoden train line toward the coast.
Retro Enoden Train Ride & Hase Back-Alleys
We hop onto the nostalgic green train line to Hase, then instantly escape the crowds into quiet residential side streets. We will visit a hidden 1,300-year-old local hillside sanctuary completely ignored by tour buses.
The Great Buddha Monument (Kotoku-in)
We approach the world-famous, magnificent outdoor bronze Great Buddha from a calm, tree-lined side street. This allows us to beat the arriving midday traffic so you can enjoy the monument and take your photos comfortably.
Gokurakuji Valley & Joju-in Temple Ocean View
We take a peaceful, crowd-free walk past hidden residential gardens and the historic red-brick train tunnel. We then climb the stone steps of Joju-in Temple, where you get a spectacular panoramic view looking straight down over Yuigahama Beach and the ocean. The tour ends here at 01:00 PM, leaving your afternoon free!
Ending Point
Our tour ends at this beautiful ocean viewpoint. Your afternoon is free for the beach! I'll share my favorite seaside lunch cafes and show you how to take the retro train back to Tokyo whenever you are ready.

Tour Important Information
• Comfortable Walking Shoes: We will be exploring quiet residential streets, gravel paths, and historic staircases. Please wear comfortable sneakers or walking shoes!
• Hilltop Staircase: To reach our beautiful final ocean viewpoint at Joju-in Temple, we must climb a traditional flight of 108 stone steps. Please make sure everyone in your group is comfortable with a light uphill walk.
• Cash is King: While Tokyo is highly digital, many small traditional shops, still strictly accept cash (Japanese Yen) only. I recommend having some paper bills or coins on hand for the day.
• IC Cards Ready: To keep our 4 hours moving smoothly without waiting in long ticket machine lines, please make sure your digital or physical transit cards (Suica, Pasmo, or Welcome Suica) are pre-loaded with at least ¥1,500 before we meet at the station.
• Local Street Etiquette: Kamakura has a local rule asking visitors not to eat while walking down the streets to keep the town clean. We will do our snacking and drinking directly at the shop stalls or designated seating areas!
• Camera Ready: We will cross a beautiful, quiet neighborhood train track and visit stunning garden areas. I am more than happy to act as your personal photographer throughout the walk!
• Rain or Shine: The tour runs in all weather conditions. If rain is expected, please bring a compact umbrella. Kamakura’s ancient wooden temples actually look incredibly beautiful and atmospheric in the rain, and we can easily adjust the route to stay under shelter.

About Tour Guide Jalil E.
Hi, I'm Jalil ! I’ve called Japan my home for 15 years and speak English, French, and Arabic.
Let's be honest: you don't need a guide to read Wikipedia facts or show you Google Maps routes. Instead, travelers book a day with me for mental peace, authenticity, and deep local insight.
I absolutely love walking—it's how you truly learn a city and notice the charm of its tiny, hidden side streets. Spending a decade and a half living, working, and thriving in Kanagawa and Tokyo gives me firsthand knowledge of local networks and cultural nuances that algorithms miss completely.
Respecting your time and energy, most of my tours are efficient, high-value 4-hour experiences where I handle the "hard part" first. We will conquer the complex train hubs, bypass heavy crowds, and unlock local culture together. Once you have your bearings, I'll hand you a list of local secrets and leave you with total free time to explore securely on your own!
If you want a deep dive, I am always open to extending our journey into a full 8-hour day tour—just message me to scale the day.
With me, you get a trusted multilingual friend who understands your international perspective, expectations, and travel needs.
How I love to help my guests:
• Hidden Local Secrets: I guide you past crowded commercial tracks into cinematic residential side-streets, hidden 700-year-old shrines, and authentic local neighborhoods.
• Language & Etiquette Bridge: I act as your translator so you can comfortably eat at neighborhood spots with no English menus or browse traditional boutiques.
• Honest, Commission-Free Guiding: I never accept shop kickbacks or use tourist traps. My recommendations are 100% independent.
• Personal Photographer: I will gladly take nice photos of your group throughout our walk so everyone is in the picture!
I am fully flexible and happy to customize the pace, starting times, and locations to match your group's comfort. Send me a message, and let’s design your perfect day in Japan!
