Meeting Point
Kobe Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Building Front
- The Kobe Shosen Mitsui Building, commonly known as the Kobe Building, stands prominently in the heart of Kobe's Chūō Ward, at 5 Kaigan-dori. Completed in 1922, it marks over a century as a testament to Kobe's maritime legacy and architectural heritage. Designed by architect Setsu Watanabe, with contributions from Togo Murano, the building exemplifies early 20th-century high-rise technology and has withstood significant historical events, including World War II and the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Its original exterior remains largely intact, making it one of the few large-scale office complexes from Japan's Taishō era to do so. Today, it continues to serve as a vital business base for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) in Kobe, reflecting the city's enduring role in global maritime trade.
Kobe mosque
Located in the Kitano district of Kobe, the Kobe Mosque is the oldest mosque in Japan, completed in 1935. Built to serve the Muslim community of Kobe—one of Japan’s most international port cities—the mosque blends Islamic architectural styles with local Japanese influences, featuring a distinctive red brick façade and elegant minarets.
Despite surviving the devastation of the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995, the mosque remains a vital cultural and religious center. It welcomes visitors with open doors for tours and educational opportunities, making it a unique symbol of Kobe’s long-standing multiculturalism and religious tolerance.
Visitors can explore its peaceful prayer hall and learn about the history of Islam in Japan, reflecting the diversity and harmony that Kobe represents.
Kobe Port – Gateway to Japan’s International Trade
Kobe Port, located in the city of Kobe on Japan’s southern coast, is one of the country’s most important and historic maritime hubs. Established in the late 19th century as one of the first Japanese ports opened to international trade, it quickly grew into a bustling gateway connecting Japan to the world.
Today, Kobe Port combines modern shipping facilities with scenic waterfront areas that attract both business and leisure visitors. The port area features cruise terminals, container yards, and recreational spots like Meriken Park, where iconic landmarks such as the Kobe Port Tower and the Maritime Museum stand. The harmonious blend of industrial vitality and tourist-friendly attractions makes Kobe Port a symbol of the city’s rich maritime heritage and cosmopolitan spirit.
