Todai-ji Temple
Todai-ji is one of Japan’s most famous and historically significant temples, located in Nara. It houses the colossal Great Buddha (Daibutsu), one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in the world, standing over 15 meters tall. The temple’s massive wooden structure, known as the Daibutsuden (Great Buddha Hall), is a marvel of ancient Japanese architecture. Surrounded by beautiful parkland where friendly deer roam freely, Todai-ji offers a serene and awe-inspiring experience that reflects Japan’s spiritual heritage.
Kasuga taisha shrine
Kasuga Taisha is a renowned Shinto shrine in Nara, famous for its hundreds of stone and bronze lanterns that line the paths and the shrine grounds. Established in 768 AD, it is dedicated to the protection of the city and is deeply connected to the powerful Fujiwara family. The shrine is surrounded by a lush forest, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy walking along the lantern-lit paths, especially magical during seasonal festivals when the lanterns are lit up at night.
Mount wakakusa
Mount Wakakusa is a gentle grassy hill located just east of Nara Park, offering beautiful panoramic views of Nara city and its historic temples. It’s a popular spot for hiking and picnics, with a relatively easy trail suitable for most visitors. In winter, the mountain is famous for the Wakakusa Yamayaki festival, where the entire hillside is set ablaze in a spectacular fire ritual. Climbing Mount Wakakusa is a refreshing way to experience nature while enjoying a stunning view of Japan’s ancient capital.
Nara Deer park and lunch at nearby hotel
Nara Deer Park is a spacious and picturesque park in the heart of Nara city, famous for its freely roaming, friendly deer. These deer are considered sacred messengers of the gods in Shinto tradition and are beloved by visitors of all ages. You can feed them special deer crackers sold nearby and enjoy walking peaceful paths surrounded by historic temples, gardens, and scenic ponds. The park offers a unique blend of nature, culture, and tradition, making it a must-visit spot on any Nara tour.
