Meeting Point

Ao no Domon Public Parking Lot

- [Address: Honyabakeimachi Sogi, Nakatsu, Oita] Please come to this place by car or taxi.

09:30 AM

Kyoshuho Hike

Kyoshuho Exploration Trail is a scenic walk through one of Yabakei’s most iconic landscapes: a dramatic 1-kilometer line of towering rock pinnacles that feels like a natural stone “folding screen.” Along the ridge-route you’ll experience a unique mix of cliffside viewpoints, mysterious rock formations, and spiritual spots—making it a short, high-impact hike packed with nature, story, and atmosphere.

11:30 AM

Lunch

Enjoy a buffet-style lunch at Farmar's Restaurant DOMON PATIO. You can freely eat as much as you like from a variety of dishes. The vegetables are especially delicious.

If this restaurant is closed or fully booked and we can't get a reservation, we'll go to another restaurant nearby.

01:00 PM

Fururakan Hike

Fururakan (Old Rakan) Exploration Trail is a unique hike across rugged rocky ridges facing Rakanji Temple, where you’ll pass strange rock formations, natural rock shelters, and historic stone Buddhist carvings placed directly into cliffs and caves. The route feels like a journey through a “living stone gallery,” blending dramatic scenery with a quiet, spiritual atmosphere you can only find in rural Yabakei.

02:00 PM

Rakanji Temple

Rakanji is fascinating because it feels like stepping into a hidden “stone Buddha world” carved into a mountain. You walk through caves and rock shelters filled with several thousand stone statues—including some of Japan’s oldest 500 Rakan—while the temple buildings blend into massive cliff walls, creating a powerful mix of spirituality, history, and breathtaking scenery that changes with the seasons.

About Tour Guide Jun M.

Hello! I'm Jun, your adventure travel guide.

My fascination with the nature of Kyushu began when I was a child and my parents took me to the beautiful Aso mountains and their vast green grasslands. That view remains my starting point to this day.

Having been born and raised in Kyushu and having studied its nature, history, and culture, I will guide you to the "real Kyushu" that you won't find in guidebooks.

From the majestic volcanic landscapes of Aso to the mystical gorges of Takachiho and the hot spring–rich lands of Beppu, Kyushu is alive with breathtaking natural wonders around every corner. It's the history and culture of the people who have lived alongside this nature that make this place truly special.

My tours offer more than just scenic views. Through interactions with locals, experiences of traditional food culture, and activities in nature, I deliver journeys where you can experience Kyushu with your whole being. Only by learning how the land was formed, hearing from the people who live here, and setting foot on the land yourself will you have a truly memorable experience.

Over the past several years, I have gained experience leading mountain hiking and rural walking tours as a registered outdoor guide of Oita. I have completed Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) training.

Come discover Kyushu's charm with me and create a memory that will stay with you forever!
