Meeting Point
Ieyasu no Yu, footbath located in front of Atami Station
- Ieyasu no Yu This literally mean "Hot Spring of Ieyasu", named after Tokugawa, Ieyasu, the first shogun of Edo period in 17th century, who loved Atami. With a board with your name, I will welcome you to Atami, explains brief history of Atami, then ask your preference, such as history, culture, sceneries, shrines/temples or art, before starting the tour.
*Heiwa Dori Shopping Arcade
Traditional & retro looking shopping arcade close to Atami Station. In the morning, this street is still rather quiet, so you can see shop staffs getting ready for the opening. There are many souvenir shops, sweets shops, restaurants, and you can come back later if you find any shops interesting.
*Kosawa no Yu
This is one of the "seven hot springs of Atami” and you can make steamed eggs using steam of hot springs.
I also give out a stamp sheet to collect stamps at each of these seven locations in Atami. While we cannot cover all the places during the tour, you are welcome to continue your stamp collection after the tour.
Oyu Geyser
This is the iconic sight of Atami. I will explain about the legends, history, and interesting facts. Oyu Geyser is also one of the "seven hot springs" where you can collect the stamp.
Itogawa River
The area is famous for Atami cherry blossoms, which bloom in January and known as the earliest bloom of Sakura in Japan. Along the river, depending on time of the year, you can also enjoy various flowers.
Atami Geigi Kenban (Geisha Union) for SAT & SUN
Atami still has the largest number of Geisha in the Central area of Japan, and this is a place serving as a theatre, practice venue, and reservation center. If the tour is on Saturday or Sunday, you will have a chance to see their 30-min special stage performance, starting from 11 am. (Please pay for admission fee for you on site by cash - 2,500 per person)
Kiunkaku for WEEKDAYS
If the tour takes place on weekdays, we can simply walk by Atami Geigi Kenban, and head to Kiunkaku, a mansion built in early 20th century with a beautiful garden, (Please pay for admission fee for you and a guide - 620 per person). Please note that this place is closed on Wednesday.

About Tour Guide Yuri U.
I am Yuri, based in ATAMI, located at the base of Izu Peninsula, a seaside onsen (hot springs) town, only 45 min. from Tokyo area and full of history, culture and beautiful sceneries. Atami is known as Monaco of the East, and is a very popular destination among Japanese, while only less than 5% of visitors are foreigners.
Please add Atami to your Japan itinerary, especially if you are interested in visiting where locals would go and see the real life of Japan. I am happy to take you around like your friend.
Since Atami is a gateway to Izu Peninsula, I also offer various tours in other areas of Izu Peninsula. So, look out for all of my tours and I hope to see you soon!
