These traditional streets retains the atmosphere of a castle town about 150 years ago. These mud walls have roofs and covers to protect from the snow. The heights of the walls are different depending on the samurais’ ranking.
Footman House
This house was the residence of the lowest ranking samurai. Other than fighting in battles, they had a lot of works such as guarding, delivering and making pottery.

Nomura Samurai House
It was the residence of the Nomura family. For twelve generations, they were high ranking officials under the feudal lords. The garden of this house got two stars in the Michelin Guide.
Kutani Porcelain
Kutani porcelain was established about 350 years ago. Traditionally, they use five colors made from different types of metal. It gave a strong influence of European culture.
