Since 1750
In Sankeien Garden in Yokohama city, there are many old traditional Japanese-style houses and buildings, some of which are designated as important cultural properties. One of them is an old farmer's house shown by the pictures of mine which was relocated from Gifu prefecture in 1960. What is interesting to visitors is that they can enter the inside of the house, freely walk around and make youself at home. This style of houses is called Gassyou Zukuri in Japanese, whose location is generally well known for UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gifu and Toyama prefectures. This one was originally located on the site where is now under the dam water. That's why visitors can feel the atmosphere of old farmer's house even in Yokohama. Gassoyou Zukuri represents the shape of a roof which is chracterized by steep thatched one, and similar to joining hands together. Sankeien Garden is very wonderful. Why don't you join me?
