Originally from Canada, I've been living in Japan for 35 years, most of that in Miyazaki. I speak the language and I know the area better than most locals. In Miyazaki, there is a lack of public transport so I'd be happy to drive you to places like Aoshima (a beautiful beach and surfing hub), Udo Jingu (a unique seaside shrine), the samurai and merchant residences of Obi, and introduce you to the best spots for local food, shopping, or nightlife. The volcanic highlands of Ebino and Kirishima are accessible from Miyazaki, as is Takachiho, the center of Japanese mythology with its famous gorge. I know them all well and I’d like to share that knowledge, the wonderful scenery, indeed the whole Miyazaki experience, with you.

Hi I'm Eiji, an English-speaking tour guide in Kagoshima and Amami Oshima. Born in Tokyo and left the bustling capital when I was 22 years old with my little backpack. After spent my youth to see and experience the world, more than 25 countries in total, and lived in several areas of Japan, such as Yakushima, Izu, Kochi, and Amami Oshima. Now, I’m based in Kagoshima, still have a wanderlust… Since 2010, I have worked as an English-speaking tour guide in Japan, for INTREPID TRAVEL for 3 years, as a sea kayak tour guide in Izu for 3 years, and as a self-employed in Amami Oshima for 9 years, love to show people around my favorite places. My interests are traveling, birding, playing with nature, and cooking as well... I'm looking forward to sharing our time together!!

Hi! I’m a licensed guide living in Kagoshima. Please call me Miki ! Now I’m working as a guide and an interpreter. And I have a certificate for medical interpreter. I love to meet new people. In my town Kagoshima, there are abundant nature and places where you can experience unique local culture. My favorite place is Mt. Sakurajima. It’s one of the best active volcanoes in the world. From observatories, you could feel its energy and, moreover if you are lucky, it will erupt in front of you! If you are interested in history of Japan, here is the right place to visit because..... oops, I’ll tell you the story when we meet!! I’m very flexible and cheerful. And I’m very happy to arrange a tour for you and customize it according to your request!! So please leave your message to me and feel free to ask me if you have any questions or specific requests before you come. I’m looking forward to seeing you here Kagoshima!! Can’t wait!! Miki

“Highly recommended tour and guide ”
We had a wonderful day with Eiji. A well travelled local, Eiji was warm and friendly, a fantastic communicator, flexible, and highly knowledgeable about the area. We especially appreciated his insights into the places we visited.

“Five stars!! ”
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour yesterday with Michael. He was friendly, knowledgeable and flexible with tour arrangements. We would highly recommend him as a tour guide. Loved exploring the Nichinan coast, Aoshima and Obi. Very interesting and culturally fascinating

Thanks so much for the kind words, Nikki. Most of all, I'm glad that you enjoyed this little, obscure corner of the country. We managed to have great weather and you and Bruce were very congenial -- making my job a breeze. I must also note that you were the first guests I have ever taken to a Japanese hardware store -- I hope that Bruce was satisfied with his new drill. Anyway, have a good, safe trip back and please spread the word about Miyazaki!

“Miyazaki Tour”
My brother Jason and I flew out to Miyazaki airport where Eiji picked us up. Not only is he a welcoming and friendly tour guide, but he's also very knowledgeable. He was more than happy to explain the historical background of the various places in we visited such as Obi Castle Town, Udo shrine, and Aoshima Island. Additionally, he's also makes good suggestions. For instance, when he learned that we practiced archery, he told us we could try out Shihanmato style archery at Obi Castle Town and that was pretty enjoyable. On top of that, the restaurant he recommended makes was excellent. We had nanban chicken and that was delicious. If you're looking for a tour guide for Miyazaki, Eiji is excellent.at it. If I decide to visit Miyazaki in the future and need a tour guide, Eiji will be one I'll definitely reach out to. Thanks for the tour, Eiji. Jason and I had a great time.
