Going up the stone steps to the entrance gate, tall cedar trees welcome the visitors. The main hall is dedicated to the seated Buddha with the crown on his head. A dragon is drawn on its ceiling. The Grand Bell and the Relic Hall are our national treasures. The view of the garden from the abbot's hall is terrific.
Meigetsu-in (Ajisai-dera)
The temple is famous for blue hydrangeas in early summer and autumn leaves. The 'Round Window' in the sanctuary, the dry landscape garden, are marvelous. The tomb cave here is the largest in Kamakaura..
Jyochi-ji
The approach is covered with beautiful green mosses. Take pictures at the impressive entrance. The tall Japanese umbrella-pine tree stands in the precinct. Three main statues are enshrined in the temple hall
Tokei-ji
The founder is Nun Kakusan-ni, wife of 8th Regent Tokimune. Highborn ladies became the abbess. The temple was known as "Divorce temple" or a sanctuary for women fleeing from husbands.

Kencho-ji has many attractive spots on the precinct. The big bell, a national treasure, the framed calligraphies, 700 years-old juniper trees, a dragon drawn on the ceiling and the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha in ascetic practices. I was born and raised in Kamakura. I have spent most of my life in Japan except 2 years in the U.S.
I am a certified national tour guide living in Kamakura.
There are many temples and shrines in Kamakura. Asakusa has a world-famous Senso-ji temple with Thunder Gate. They are not only the holly places where people come to worship but the historic sites where visitors can touch and feel the Japanese cultures and traditions.
I am very happy to share my knowledge with the foreign visitors who want to know about Japan.
Visiting the old historic places is the gateway to understand Japan.
Asakusa is in the downtown Tokyo. Kamakura is one hour from Tokyo station by JR train.
So why not come and join my tour. I am waiting for your reservation.

“Day tour of kamakara”
Takayasu was an excellent guide! His explanations were clear we, enjoyed the historical information he presented. He adjusted the day at our request, because of rain and our need to be at the airport for our return home. He made sure our bags were taken care of appropriately, walking us in to the counter . I would recommend him wholeheartedly !

Explore the connection between the Samurai Government and Buddhism!
The Kamakura Shogunate, established by Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1192, marked the beginning of feudal military government. This period was characterized by the rise of the samurai class and the establishment of a feudal system. It was also marked by both the patronage of Buddhism by the ruling class and the rise of new Buddhist movements that catered to the spiritual needs of the samurai and common people alike. We will explore these facts by visiting some temples and shrines.
