Meeting Point
Odakyu Fujisawa Station
- Odakyu Fujisawa Station ticket gate, opposite LIERRE shopping mall
Odakyu Katase Enoshima Line Train
We will take the Odakeyu Katase Enoshima line to Katase Enoshima Station together.
Enoshima Island Bronze Torii Gate
We will walk from Katase-Enoshima Station to Enoshima Island by the pedestrian bridge and arrive at the bronze torii gate at the foot of the shrines of Enoshima Island.
Hetsumiya, the Lower Shrine
We will make our way past the streets and shops to visit Hetsu-no-miya, the first of the three shrines of Enoshima. There is an impressive red torii gate that stands above this part of the island. We will head up the stairs to the shrine and also learn about omikuji, ema, omamori and goshuin, items you will find at almost every shrine or temple in Japan.
Nakatsumiya, The Upper Shrine
The second of the three sister goddesses is enshrined at Nakatsumiya, that has its vivid vermillion colored shrine. It is located in the middle of the island.
Sea Candle and Samuel Cocking Garden
Samuel Cocking was a British merchant who created a greenhouse and garden on Enoshima Island in the 19th century after purchasing land on the island.
Sea Candle is the iconic lighthouse tower that represents the image of Enoshima Island. It stands 60 meters and is located within the Samuel Cocking Garden. offers stunning ocean views over the Shonan coastline. There is a fee to visit the observation tower, which offers stunning ocean views of the Shonan coastline. Mount Fuji can sometimes be seen, if you are lucky.
Lunch
There are restaurants with ocean views or small cafes along the way! Seafood, such as white bait rice bowls are one of the options! Food is not included in the price of the tour and guests will need to pay for any food or drinks. Also, many of the restaurants only accept cash so please bring Japanese yen with you, just in case.
Okutsumiya Shrine
This shrine is for the third sister goddess enshrined on Enoshima Island. On the ceiling of the main hall, is the painting of the "turtle staring at you from eight directions". It is a famous painting and many people miss it!
Dragon Love Bell / Dragon Shrine
Near Okutsumiya shrine, is Wadatsunomiya, or the Dragon Shrine. There is a legend of Enoshima featuring a beautiful maiden and 5-headed dragon. This is a love story and the shrine for the dragon is located here.
A short walk along a path takes us to Ryuren no Kane or the Dragon Love Bell. This bell is also related to the love story of the dragon and maiden of Enoshima Island and the theme of eternal love.
Iwaya Caves
Down a series of very steep steps on the far side of the island is Iwaya caves. These naturally formed caves were created by erosion of waves during ancient times. Here Buddhist monks used to train and there is a statue of the 5-headed dragon of Enoshima legend.
There is a fee of 500 yen to enter the Iwaya Caves.
Nakamise Street
We will retrace our steps back through the island to the Nakamise shopping street near the bronze torii gates where we started our tour of Enoshima. There are numerous food stalls and shops that sell souvenirs and traditional snacks.
Then we will walk back across the bridge toward Katase-Enoshima station.
Tea time and snacks
If the guests are interested, we can walk along another shopping street for snacks, sweets or even matcha tea at a famous local tea shop that features youkan, a traditional Japanese sweets.
End of Tour
At this point, the guests can continue to Kamakura or head to your next destination. There are three transit options and I can advise what is the best for you and your needs to continue on your Japan adventure!

- This tour involves a lot of walking, up and down many steep steps to reach the different areas of Enoshima Island. Please wearing comfortable shoes and dress for the weather and level of activity. Also, please be sure you are in good physical condition and able to navigate these steps.
- This tour is not recommended for those who may have medical issues, such as heart problems or foot, leg or knee problems, for example.
- This tour does not have wheelchair accessibility or elevators. Unfortunately, most areas of Enoshima Island do not have access for those with mobility issues.
- Please dress appropriately for the season of your visit. Enoshima is an island and can get cold due to ocean breezes, especially along the bridge to the island.
- Please check the weather forecast of the day of your visit. During warmer months and especially during the summer, the weather can have a strong effect on travelers, especially while walking the island. Bring water or liquids to stay adequately hydrated.
- Please let me know in advance if you have any food allergies or other dietary restrictions.
- This tour will occur rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the itinerary of the tour may be changed.
