Omicho Market Tour
Our tour begins with an introduction to Omicho Market, Kanazawa’s bustling center of fresh flavors and culinary traditions. As we step into the heart of this historic market, with over 300 years of history, you'll be greeted by a vibrant array of colors and aromas. I’ll introduce you to one of my favorite stalls, where a warm vendor awaits to share the best seasonal specialties. Here, you’ll get a taste of freshly prepared sushi made from the catch of the day—straight from the Sea of Japan!
The vendor will share stories behind their craft, and I’ll explain how the surrounding region’s waters influence the distinct flavors of Kanazawa’s seafood. We’ll also discuss how Omicho Market became a vital hub in the city’s food culture, supplying fresh ingredients to locals and top restaurants alike. As we enjoy this first tasting, feel free to ask any questions you have about the ingredients, flavors, or even how to enjoy sushi like a local!
This first stop is just a taste of what’s to come as we dive deeper into Omicho Market’s culinary treasures.
An Exploration Through Kanazawa's Chaya Districts with Sake or Sweets
For the final stop on our journey through Kanazawa’s Chaya districts, we’ll visit a hidden gem tucked away in a quieter corner of the area—a cozy, historic teahouse that captures the essence of Kanazawa’s refined culture. Here, you’ll have a choice to end the tour with either a tasting of premium local sake or a beautifully plated selection of traditional Japanese sweets.
If you choose sake, you’ll sample varieties unique to Kanazawa, crafted with the pure water and precise techniques that make this region’s sake so revered. I’ll guide you through the tasting process, explaining the distinct flavors and history of each brew, as well as how sake has woven itself into Japanese rituals and daily life.
For those who opt for sweets, you’ll enjoy delicate wagashi, artfully made to reflect the seasons and served in traditional tea ceremony style. I’ll share insights into Kanazawa’s connection to the tea ceremony and how these handcrafted treats are enjoyed in Japanese culture.
As we relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere, feel free to ask any final questions or simply savor the moment. It’s the perfect way to end our journey through the Chaya districts, leaving you with a deeper appreciation of Kanazawa’s heritage, flavors, and timeless beauty.

Hello! My name is Criselda, but friends and family often call me Selda. Welcome to my page and I'm glad you're interested in knowing about the wonderful city of Kanazawa with me. I am originally from the Philippines and I've been living and working in the Hokuriku region for almost 7 years. I definitely consider Kanazawa as my home in Japan. Kanazawa is known for many things including gold leaf, a rich samurai history, its beautiful gardens, delicious seafood, and historic Geiko (Geisha) culture. I would love to introduce these things and so much more! Did you know Kanazawa is also home to the oldest sake brewery in the region? What about the local ceramics and laquerware? You can also participate in different workshops like traditional Japanese sweets-making class, gold leaf pasting, Kaga-yuzen (local kimono brand) painting, and sushi-making using local ingredients. There are many beautiful known spots and a lot of hidden gems in the area and I can't wait to introduce them to you. One of my hobbies is photography and I will surely capture your moments in the city to make your stay extra memorable. I'm excited to meet you in the Golden City, Kanazawa.
