Meeting Point
JR Tennoji Station
- Let's meet at the central exit of JR Tennoji Station. It is accessible from JR Loop Line or from metro Tanimachi Line and Midosuji Line.
Shitenno-ji temple
From Tennoji station, we'll walk to Shitenno-ji temple.
Abeno Harukas Garden Terrace and Café
After visiting Shitenno-ji temple, we'll walk to Abeno Harukas building. We'll go to the garden terrace on the 16th floor to admire the view onto central Osaka and have some coffee (or tea).
Tennoji Park
Back to ground level, we'll have a walk in Tennoji Park. There is a beautiful red bridge arching over a pound where you can see wild birds, carps, and turtles as well.
Shinsekai District
Tennoji Park connects to Shinsekai ("New World"), a district famous for its retro vibe as much as for its delicious soul food. We'll eat "kushikatsu" together. Please believe me: it's too good! "Kushikatsu" (串カツ) refers to a deep-fried skewers of meat, fish and vegetables.
The back story of this 100-year old district is really fascinating. I can't wait to talk to you about it!
There are plenty of things to do in Shinsekai. We can play retro arcade games like super Mario or Tetris. We can also try the old version of the pachinko game.
Nipponbashi's Den-Den Town/ Otaku Road
To the north of Shinsekai, there is a district called Den-Den Town, which stand for “Denki no Machi” or “Electric Town.” Den-Den Town attracts geek and otaku enthusiasts who come to browse the stores in search of bargains, mainly in video games and collectible figurines. This where you can buy your old Pokemon cards!
From there it's a short distance to Kuromon Market, our next stop.
Kuromon Market
Kuromon is an old fish market where you can eat as you stroll. There are more than 150 shops and restaurants selling all kinds of fish, cakes, fruits, vegetables, sweets, etc.
Namba/ Dotombori
From Kuromon market, we'll have a walk in the streets of Namba until we reach the famous Dotombori canal located in the Dotombori district.
Ending Point
Namba Station
