Tour Important Information

Note *This tour is not available from 20th of December to 15th of March.

* For the Shiga tour, you must reserve a taxi, which is available at a special discounted price and is only applicable to Shiga's ninja tour and does not apply to tours in Kyoto.

This is a rural area therefore public transportation is limited so we need leeway of time. We usually reserve a taxi for 4 or 5 hours. Taxi charges are more expensive here than other areas.

You need to prepare the amount of Japanese yen you will need on your trip in cash as our area does not always have machines available to use..

You need to remove your shoes at the Ninja yashiki and the sake brewery.

This area is colder than Osaka and Kyoto, dress warmly.

About Tour Guide Mana F.

Hello, my name is Mana. I am a National Licensed Tour Guide in English. I was born and raised in Kyoto. I worked for the Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters after I graduated from university.

I know lots about Kyoto's cultures and festivals . After I got married, I have been in Shiga for over 30 years. I work for at high school as a part time teacher. I am flexible in Kyoto and Shiga. I am practicing ”Rakugo”a traditional Japanese comedic storytelling art, to make my tours more enjoyable and filled with laughter. Let’s laugh together during my tours! The fun, hand-drawn illustrations I use on my tours are also very popular—most of my guests take photos of them.

Magical first day in Kyoto

Mana is wonderful! We loved our day with her - an incredible visit to Fushimi, and Uji - it was a gorgeous fall day, and Mana offered the perfect blend of stories, history, with her warmth and gift of knowing when to just let us take in the wonders. Mana is a gifted teacher & we enjoyed playfully learning counting to 10 in Japanese! She surprised us with a tour of the Sake museum - a delight! We loved taking in the delights of Uji, with Mana’s humor, knowledge, and love of the area. She generously gave us more time than planned - We would have enjoyed another full day with Mana, and when we return, we will hope to tour with her on another magical day. Thank you, Mana!

Dear Catherine, My day with you in my hometown felt just as magical for me as it was for you, as you stated in your review. Thanks to that magic, we were able to meet again in Arashiyama three days later, and I was so happy that you remembered my name. The couple I was guiding at that moment were also lovely guests from Boston—perhaps that was another piece of magic as well? I can easily picture the two of you happily enjoying sake together. In Japan, we say “Sake is the best of all medicines.” May you always stay healthy and continue to enjoy good sake! Thank you very much Mana

Mana deserves TEN stars! ️️

We were fortunate to spend two days with Mana in Kyoto. She is knowledgeable, organized and thoughtful. She took care of every detail, moving us seamlessly through all the busy sites. Bonus: she is a talented artist and draws fabulous illustrations explaining both practical and historical information. Growing up in the area, she is an expert on modern local culture as well as history of the area. We highly recommend Mana! Janet & John (Boston)

Dear Janet, Thank you so much for sending me such a wonderful review right after the tour. Because of your message, all my fatigue disappeared while I was on the bus ride home. I’m sure you must be tired after walking so much at a fast pace over the two days, including the long trip to Nara. Please come back to Kyoto again and again, and take your time to enjoy it fully. I’ll be waiting for you here in Kyoto, the city of a thousand years of history. Mana
