Kochi Private Cars, Van & Transfers

Kochi Castle is one of the only 12 castle towers in Japan which have kept the original shape since Edo period. You can feel the history of the real castle. In Chikurinji Temple you can enjoy Zazen Meditation and Shakyo writing. You can use a chair during Shakyo and sit cross-legged on a comfortable cushion during Zazen Meditation. And you can enjoy the lunch including local specialty at the patio surrounded by many plants inside the botanical garden. Finally, you will walk through Ryugado Cave. It takes about one hour to reach the exit of the cave and the total length is about 1km. This cave is a natural limestone cave that developed over 175 million years. Near the exit there are the remains of cave-dwelling communities during Yayoi period about 2000 years ago. In particular, Yayoi vase covered with lime, known as “a divine pot" , is extremely rare in the world of archaeology and it is the most precious treasure in this cave. Of course, you can see many limestones of various shapes.

At the facility called “Kuraudo”, you can experience making Japanese paper by your hands. Especially, you will make your original postcards including some flowers of your choice. At the patio of the café, you will eat wonderful lunch including local specialty while watching nostalgic and rural scenes. If you choose Plan A, you will enjoy crystal kayaks with a local expert instructor. Through the transparent bottom of the kayak, you will surely watch clear water, beautiful stones and some river fish directly underneath you. I’m sure you will not be able to believe your eyes. If you choose Plan B, you will enjoy drinking Matcha, green powdered tea which a monk of Zenpouji Temple serves in its garden. The garden is located near a subsidiary stream of the Niyodo River. So, you will enjoy drinking Matcha with the background of “Niyodo Blue” stream.

 As soon as you get to the waterfall plunge pool called “Nikobuchi”, you will be at a loss for word to express its very clear and beautiful color of the plunge pool. The color is sometimes emerald green or sometimes turquoise blue. Surprisingly you can see the bottom of the pool very clearly. Furthermore, the pool is surrounded by trees and huge rocks, so the atmosphere is quiet and sublime. In Yasui Gorge you can enjoy walking on the trail along the river. On the mountain side you see various flowers and plants. And on the riverside you see huge and green rocks. After you walk for about fifteen minutes you will finally come across Suishobuchi, a basin known to have the most transparent waters along the Niyodo River. One of my friends sometimes comes to the basin to relax when he feels stressed because of his hard work. He says that he can relax and receive some energy after staying there. I’m sure you can relax and receive enough energy to continue the journey. And Yasui Gorge is featured in the popular animation film,”Dragon and a princess with a freckled face” But, the tourists are supposed to be careful what they do in these spots. Especially, local people think that Nikobuchi is a sacred place where a water god dwells, so they avoid visiting the place. We have to behave respectfully in this area. As a local guide, I know these places well and some rules we have to keep.

Kochi Miraculous Niyodo River- Yasui Gorge&Nikobuchi 

Claude Monet created many famous paintings using his garden as a living canvas. Especially the paintings of water lilies are very popular now in the world. Some of them include the Japanese bridge and a weeping willow tree. In Kitagawa Monet’s Garden you can enjoy watching not only the same natural scenes but also Monet’ replicated paintings which represent these scenes. In Tano Town there are many historic buildings which were built in Edo Period, about 400 years ago. Especially, Oka Goten is very famous, because it was a residence of a wealthy merchant and was used as the headquarters for Tosa feudal lord. It has been designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of the Kochi Prefecture. You can feel the history of the traditional building. Experience of wearing the costumes of samurai lord and princess of samurai is popular here!  Ioki Cave is a 40 meter long, 3 meter wide and 5 meter high tunnel with fossilised shells embedded in the rocky walls. The cave is covered with a thick carpet of mostly tropical ferns. The diversity of ferns (more than 40 species!) is so unique that it was recognized as a National Natural Monument in 1915.

Kochi Monet’s Garden, Ioki Cave & Salt Making of Tano Town

At Muroto Global Geopark Center, you can learn about the feature of geology, nature, history and culture of the area through videos and displays. By these displays you will be surprised to know that Muroto is constantly being uplifted now.  And also you will know that people of Muroto have continued to live in harmony with the vast nature atop this uplifted land. With this knowledge you will visit Muroto Cape and see uplifted huge rocks standing vertically. You can’t help being surprised at the power of the earth or even afraid of it. And you will understand that about 20 % of the world earthquakes with more than 6 magnitude occur in Japan. In Kitagawa Monet’s Garden you can enjoy watching not only the natural scenes including beautiful flowers but also Monet’ replicated paintings which represent these scenes. In Kiragawa Town, you will see some traditional white-walled homes and storehouses built during the Meiji (1868–1912) and Taisho (1912–1926) periods. At Muroto Dolphin Center you can enjoy moments with dolphins by interacting with them. The staff of the center see to it that interacting with humans will not be a burden on dolphins. 


Kochi Muroto UNESCO Geopark & Monet’s Garden

Please read this explanation and choose one of the three spots which suits your taste. First, Nikobuchi is a waterfall plunge pool and you will be at a loss for word to express its very clear and beautiful color of the water. The color is sometimes emerald green or sometimes turquoise blue. You can see the bottom of the pool very clearly. Second, Yasui Gorge is a wonderful tail which you can enjoy walking through along the river. On the mountain side you see various cute flowers and plants. And on the riverside you see huge and green rocks. The main feature of the gorge is a basin called Suishobuchi. It is said that the basin has the most transparent waters along the Niyodo River. Yasui Gorge is featured in the popular animation film,”Dragon and a Princess with a freckled face”. Third, Nakatsu Gorge is a dynamic trail where you can see a lot of huge rocks “chert” standing vertically. These rocks were carried to Japan on the ocean plate. And they were made from dead planktons 170 million years ago. Through 
the huge rocks the beautiful river flows. At the end of the trail, you can see a powerful and mysterious waterfall called “Uryu-no-taki”. After you enjoy the gorge of your choice, you will experience crystal kayaks with a local expert instructor. Through the transparent bottom of the kayak,you will surely watch clear water, beautiful stones and some river fish directly underneath you. I’m sure you will not be able to believe your eyes.
