I have worked in the multi-national organizations including UN agency for around 30 years and stationed at various cities including Rome, Bangkok and Hanoi. Although I have retired from those international carriers, I wish to keep the international cooperation and develop the friendship with people who visits our country. As I like history and am practicing Noh song and wood curving of Buddha images, I have decided to live in Nara where is surrounded by many historical places and traditional cultures, when I returned back to Japan in 2017. I wish to offer you custom made trip ideas to be able to enjoy the atmosphere of old city, Nara. I am also planning to develop trip plans to enjoy the local cultures. Please call me Yasu.

I love sharing not only the famous landmarks, but also the small details, stories, and local experiences that make this country so special. I have traveled to more than 25 countries and all over Japan. I’m also passionate about photography and know many photogenic places in Japan. If you prefer to go off the beaten track, I can take you to hidden gems, including some cozy restaurants. Of course, I also know how to enjoy the crowded, most popular tourist sites. Naoto O.
Hello, my name is Naoto, a local guide based in Mie, Japan. I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (2026), offering private tours that go beyond typical sightseeing. My goal is to help you experience Japan, not just visit it. Before becoming a licensed guide, I completed an official tourism training program organized by the Mie Prefectural Government (2025). Through this program, I developed a strong foundation in Japanese history and culture, as well as practical skills in guiding and tour planning. ■Background and Language Skills I studied in Kyoto and also lived in Canada and New Zealand. I hold EIKEN Grade 1 and a TOEIC score of 925. My academic background is in law and international relations, so I am comfortable discussing both Japanese culture and global topics. ■Specialized Areas: Hidden Japan Experiences I specialize in guiding visitors to less-crowded, culturally rich destinations such as the Iga region, the birthplace of ninja, and the quiet historical areas of eastern Nara Prefecture. These locations offer a deeper and more authentic understanding of Japan. I can also guide you to Ise Grand Shrine, one of the most sacred and important sites in Japan. ■Comfortable Private Tours Since public transportation is limited in these rural areas, tours are conducted by private car to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. ■Local Food Experience If you are interested, I can introduce you to local restaurants where you can enjoy fresh, organic vegetables from this region. I look forward to creating a personalized and memorable experience for you. Feel free to message me anytime to customize your tour.

Ondrej R.
Dear Travellers! My name is Ondrej and I have been living in Kyoto for six years. I’m currently conducting tours in English and Czech languages. My hometown is Prague, Czech Republic, but I have left it behind years ago to live in Japan forever. In my young years, I did a wide portfolio of various sports including soccer, futsal, skateboarding, cycling, boxing and athletics (both competition/ hobby level), so I can say that I am a sportsman. However, I reached my biggest successes at chessboard - playing the highest youth chess league of my country and finally attaining a chess coach licence. At the academic level, I studied Human Sciences combined with Natural Sciences at University. My primary goal is to satisfy your needs in a new city as for what you’d like to see. Based on a given venue, I focus on incorporating its meaning into a complete/ bigger picture of the whole culture and historical system. If you’re not sure, I’m always happy to build a convenient tour plan involving appropriate amount of walking and transfers. I have been raising my children in Kyoto for six years and realizing that traveling with children may sometimes be a challenge, I invite tours with children as well. I have experience working with and guiding people from all over the world. Kyoto is a precious Japanese artifact and it is filled with unique places and cultural values and heritages. Osaka offers a wide array of cultural meanings and cuisine delicacies, as well as hidden corners and pleasurable views. I also love to take my clients to cities of Nara and Uji as they are so important for understanding the core of Japanese soul. Please contact me to book, customize or just inquire regarding tours. Once you are ready, we can discuss which of yours or mines favorite places we visit. Until then, have a good day and travel safe wherever you go.

Shawn D.
My name is Shawn. I am American and I have been living in Japan for the last 15 years. What started as a chapter became a life, and Japan has shaped who I am in ways I am still discovering. I guide exclusively in English. After 15 years as a foreigner navigating this country, I understand what genuinely moves Western visitors, what surprises them, and most importantly, the difference between a quality experience and a tourist trap. I will always steer you toward the real thing. I am based in Kobe, a city that most tourists fly straight past on their way to Osaka and Kyoto. That is their loss and your opportunity. Kobe is a relaxed, walkable port city with a character unlike anywhere else in Japan. Yes, the Kobe beef is world class. But Kobe is also one of the most historically rich and visually beautiful cities in the country, without the overwhelming crowds you will find elsewhere. I know this city and this region deeply. From Kobe, Kyoto and Osaka are both reachable in well under an hour by train. That puts you at the center of the best region in Japan without the noise and chaos of staying in a major tourist hub. I cover the full Kansai region and beyond, from famous landmarks and cultural sites to the strictly local places most visitors never find. I am also available for early morning and late evening tours. Some of the most memorable experiences in Japan happen when the crowds are gone. Every tour is planned around you. Tell me what matters and I will build the day around it. Come find out what Japan means to you. Shawn

Seiya S.
Hello, my name is Seiya, a local tour guide in the Kansai region. I was born and raised in Osaka. Growing up in Osaka made me understand its culture, mindset, and people. I also often travel overseas myself(Recent favourite is India!) and interact with local people, making me understand non-Japanese people's perspective on this country. I am particularly interested in Japanese history, religion, and traditional culture. During my time living in Kyoto, I developed a strong curiosity about temples, shrines, and the ideas behind them, and I enjoy sharing these insights in a clear and easy-to-understand way. I welcome questions and conversations, and I am happy to adjust the tour based on your interests and pace. I am also a photographer, soI would be happy to photograph you with my beloved 35mm film camera. Film photo has a nostalgic warmth, creating timeless photos that stay close to your heart! Looking forward to seeing you soon! I am not available from April to October. Thank you for your understanding.

“Fantastic day with Michiko”
We spent a wonderful day visiting Nara with Michiko. She is a knowledgeable, thoughtful and kind person that genuinely cares for her clients. She patiently answered all of our questions (and we had a lot) and constantly made sure we were comfortable and content. All four of us would highly recommend Miko to anyone thinking about hiring a guide!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It was an absolute honor to guide such a worldly-wise and well-traveled group.Your insightful questions and deep appreciation for the culture made the tour truly special. Our afternoon trip to Wazuka was a perfect contrast to the crowds in Nara—relaxing in a bus with almost no other passengers, and soaking in the stunning views of fresh greenery, rivers, and tea plantations. Meeting our amazing veteran tea-picking guide was also an absolute joy. Her incredible energy inspired us all. Sharing that beautiful day with you made me truly happy as a guide. Wishing you many more wonderful journeys ahead!

“Deserves More than 5 Stars”
We had the pleasure of Makoto-san's presence and guidance for two wonderful days of visiting the Japan of the 3rd to 8th centuries (before Nara). Most tourists are interested in later periods, the Nara age (710-781) and the centuries when Kyoto was the capital (796-1868). But I'm a Japanese history buff, and wanted to see unusual places (tombs and other archaeological sites) that were important before that. Although Makoto said it was a first-time request, he obviously did exhaustive research on the topic, and created a perfect 2-day itinerary. He also learned enough about me to add some special places of interest (I'm a. fan of sumo wrestling, and it is supposed to have started in the area we toured.). His English was great, his work ethic spectacular, and his personality youthful and engaging. I would have awarded him more than Five Stars, if there were more stars to give. He knows his stuff, tries to know his clients, and went far beyond expectations for us. I'm so grateful for the memorable two-day visit we had in the Nara basin, thanks to Makoto-san!

Dear Gordon-san, Thank you very much for your nice review comment. This tour gave me a good chance for me to think about me and how Japan has started. I still remember how we spent two days, which was an adventure and exciting experience for me too. I have learned about the Japanese history again after retirement, and this was good opportunity for me to learn about the birth of Japan. Thanks again for giving me of this nice opportunity. Makoto
