07:30 AM

Meeting Point

the lobby of your hotel

- I will pick you up at your hotel in Fukuoka City, or at the nearest station, port, or airport—whichever is most convenient for you.

09:10 AM

Meinohama Port

We will take the Fukuoka Urban Expressway and arrive at Meinohama Port at 9:00, and after parking and purchasing the ferry tickets, we will board the 9:15 ferry bound for Nokonoshima Island.

(The roads on Nokonoshima Island are narrow and steep and require local driving experience, so we will park the car at Meinohama Port.)

10:50 AM

Island Park

We will spend about one and a half hours strolling through the park,

visiting spectacular viewpoints while being surrounded by

seasonal flowers and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of

nature.

12:00 PM

Nanzoin

About a 30-minute drive from Meinohama Port, there is Nanzoin Temple, famous for its giant bronze reclining Buddha, said to be the largest in the world.

Here, you can experience various aspects of Buddhist culture, including statues of Amida Buddha, Kobo Daishi, and Fudo Myoo.

01:30 PM

Hakata old town

I will take you through the old town area, with a special visit to Tochoji Temple.

You can see its magnificent main hall and five-story pagoda, as well as one of the largest wooden seated Buddha statues in Japan, including a unique walk inside the statue.

03:00 PM

Ohori Park

In the center of Fukuoka City, there is a large public park about the size of Tokyo Disneyland.

The pond has a 2 km walking path around it, and you can also enjoy boating.

Crossing the islands connected by bridges, you will find a traditional Japanese garden with both pond-style and dry landscape elements, where you can fully appreciate Japanese aesthetics.

Next to the park, the Fukuoka Art Museum has a gallery featuring Buddhist statues donated by Tokoin Temple.

At the entrance, a pair of guardian statues welcomes visitors, similar to shrine guardians(foxes).

Inside, you will see a seated Yakushi Buddha, Nikko and Gakko Bodhisattvas, and the Twelve Divine Generals, many of which have deep connections to ancient Indian mythology.

04:30 PM

Gokoku shrine

Located just a three-minute walk from Ohori Park, Gokoku Shrine has a beautiful form that resembles a swan with its wings spread wide. The calm and peaceful atmosphere of the grounds makes it a place where many people come to reflect and pray for peace.

About Tour Guide Tac K.

I was borne and raised in Fukuoka. I'm retired last year, and now slowly enjoying life. Before retireing, I work for IT related services for over 4 decades. My job roles were programmer, System Engineer, IT department Manager and IT project manager, additionally Internal Auditor. But, I feel it's a long time ago. I'm not a sporty person. I prefer reading books(Manga & novels) and listening music. Especially, I like Taiyou Matsumoto's commic & Tatsurou Yamashita's pop music. I also like outdoor activities like camping, jogging and chairing. Especially, enjoyning chairing. (Taking a folding chair and walk to the beach, which is 15 minutes away, and just relax.) I want to communicate with many people through the Japan as it is.

“Great tour!”

I had a wonderful tour through more some difficult to visit parts of Fukuoka Prefecture when without a vehicle - Tac enabled me to see these beautiful areas with his! Even though it started raining, I had a wonderful time visiting various locations, especially this lovely and mysterious shrine in the mountains. Tac was so helpful when one of my health issues acted up during lunch, too. We are both not talkative people, but we enjoyed light conversation, and he provided useful information and context when appropriate. He also pointed out nice spots for photos and took pictures of me, which is something I always forget to do!

Thank you, Iman-san! I had a truly wonderful time on this trip. I feel that seeing our local area through your eyes helped me rediscover the beauty of the place where I live. Although the weather was unfortunately rainy, I found it very peaceful to explore the mist-covered mountains, the historic streets swept by heavy rain, and the shrines together with you. Seeing how happy you were when you spotted the adorable komainu (guardian lion-dogs) at Fukushima Hachimangu Shrine made me very happy, too. If you have a chance to visit Japan again, please feel free to reach out to me. I’d love to see you again!

“Pleasant gentleman but lacking as a guide. ”

We booked this private tour hoping to learn about Takachiho from a local perspective. Our guide, Tac, was a courteous and pleasant gentleman, and we appreciated his efforts to secure the Takachiho Gorge boat tickets, even though they were unfortunately sold out on the day. Our primary disappointment was the lack of actual guiding. We paid USD499 for a day of private tour expecting informative commentary, local insights, and engaging conversation. Instead, communication was quite limited, and the experience felt more like a driving service between photo spots. Additionally, we were surprised when asked to cover the guide's ticket for the Amaterasu Railway ride (an experience we found slightly underwhelming, though that is subjective), as this extra cost was not communicated beforehand. While Tac is a lovely person, the experience did not reflect the price paid for a guided tour. I would advise future travelers to clarify exactly what the guiding service entails and confirm any additional out-of-pocket costs before booking.

“Savoring Fukuoka with Tac was Wonderful!”

Tac is very good tour guide- he is thorough and very responsive to any requests and questions. His tour brochures are wonderfully informative and he deserves high praise for his effort in ensuring every detail is attended to. Tac shared his favorites areas of interest in Fukuoka and we had a very interesting experience enjoying the calmness of Fukuoka while we visited its attractions.

Christina D.

I was glad when Christina asked about the meaning of my name and the stories behind the names of my two sons and my grandson. As I shared these stories while guiding you, I found myself thinking anew about my own bond with my family. The omikuji Christina drew at Sakurai Shrine was kichi—a good fortune. It is said to foretell lasting happiness of the most steady and secure kind. I thought the Fūfu Kizuna Mamori you bought, a charm for a couple’s bond, was a fitting keepsake of the deep connection you have built together. As Christina prayed in front of the main shrine, Dave watched from behind. I wondered if he might choose not to pray, but after Christina had finished, he too paid his respects with such care. Seeing the two of you there, with your gentle presence, made me very happy. It was one of those moments that made me feel deeply grateful to be a guide. My car is compact (Honda Jazz), and I felt a little sorry that Dave, being so tall, might not have had much room. I drove carefully, hoping to make the journey as comfortable as possible for you. I’m simply grateful for the time I spent with you both, whose presence was so calm and dignified.
