Sugawara Michizane, enshrined at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, is revered as the god of learning. During New Year's season, over 2 million people visit, and more than 10 million every year from Japan.
The Kyushu National Museum, opened in 2005, is Japan’s fourth national museum. It focuses on history and cultural exchange with Asian countries, unlike the other three which focus on art.
Tochoji Temple, founded by the Kukai in the 9th century, is known for one of the biggest wooden seated Buddha.

Nishitetsu Tenjin Station
We go to Dazaifu station by Nishitetu train.
Departure time is 09:30. It takes 30 minutes.to go there.
Dazaifu Tennmanngu Shrine
We go to Dazaifu Tennmangu Shrine via Omotesando. There are many
Japanese cake Umegaemochi shops. It is very delicious. It takes about 10 minutes from Dazaifu Station.
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is under renovation. It takes about three years, so Temporary Hall was built to be able to pray.
Kyusyu National Museum
You can understand the formation of Japanese culture from Asian historical perspective. This architect was selected as one of the world's 100 architects in this century.
You can see old Japanese cultural properties at the permanent exhibition galley. It introduces Japanese culture which developed over 30000 years through interchange with other Asian countries.
Lunch
There is a nice restaurant next to the museum. You can eat Udon, Sukiyaki, Unagi (eel).
Kasanoya Cafe
This is a cafe with a Japanese garden. You can eat Umegae mochi made of rice and drink a coffee or Matcha. This is a cafe with a good atmosphere. I hope you like Japanese style cafe.
Dazaifu Station
We go back to Tenjin from Dazaifu by train.
It takes about 30 minutes.

Tochoji Temple
You can see the Fukuoka Daibutsu which is one of the largest wooden seated Buddha statue in Japan. You can also see 5-storied pagoda.

After retirement I worked at the group company as a director for seven years. Then I started an English volunteer guide. I have guided so many people from all over the world for 5 and half years. It is very fun to meet many foreigners. I prepared many tour courses and many nice restaurants. You can select one of them. After visiting your favorite tourist spot, I take you to
the nice delicious local restaurant at Fukuoka. You can tell what kind of food you want to eat. I recommend Tempura and Sashimi, Teppanyaki, Sushi, Sukiyaki, and so on. “Patience, attention to detail and highly organised”
Masazumi prepared a very short-notice tour for me and included destinations and activities important to me. His time management was excellent. He was informative and answered all my questions. I really appreciated his generosity in going to the post office and the large cake market with me... neither probably his idea of a good time! Masa has a good sense of humor and a dog called 'Pudding! I heavily recommend his services.

“Memorable Tour”
We booked the Autumn Leaves Tour because we wanted to see good autumn leaves for our trip to Fukuoka but got overwhelmed with the choice of where to visit. There are autumn leaves everywhere during fall and we didn't know which locations in Fukuoka City center was nice, and if we needed to go further out to Saga or Kitakyushu. Going with Masa-san was a good choice for us. The locations he picked were very memorable spots with stunning foliage -- and also locations we initially dismissed when we started researching for autumn leaves. We were pleasantly surprised by the value for money of the restaurant he chose. In our country the price is easily double or more for the teishoku he chose at the restaurant he booked for us, and the meal was delicious. As a person he is earnest and has an easygoing manner that made us feel comfortable around him. He also has the vigor to guide us through the entire walking tour. It is clear that he enjoys meeting people and showing them hidden gems around Fukuoka City. (30 November 2024)

I take you to Kumamoto by the bullet train From Fukuoka. It takes about 40 minutes. Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's the three famous castles. It was constructed in 1608. It is a vast castle with three main towers, 18 turret gates, and 29 castle gates. By the big earthquake in 2016 Kumamoto Castle was damaged. Restoration work is underway.
