I want to share the local charms of Kamakura with you, as we walk the area to visit beautiful temples and shrines, plus you may be able to try some of the local foods. Some shrines or temples have seasonal flowers or even local events throughout the year. The tour can be customized to see these events.

I grew up in nearby Fujisawa, so Kamakura is almost like my backyard! In fact, I went to Kamakurakoukou, the famous high school near the train crossing from the opening credits of Slam Dunk!

Itinerary

This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!

09:00 AM

Meeting Point

JR Fujisawa Station

- We will meet outside the ticket gate at JR Fujisawa Station. The JR Fujisawa gate has green signage. It is located next to LUMINE department store.

09:10 AM

Fujisawa Enoden Station

We will then walk to the Fujisawa Enoden Station to board the famous Enoden train and travel along the coast heading toward Kamakura. There are scenic views of the ocean, Enoshima and the train travels through the narrow neighborhoods in the area.

09:40 AM

Gokurakuji Station

We will get off at Gokurakuji Station and then walk to Gokurakuji Buddhist Temple, known for its thatched roof. This temple is very calm and serene and located away from the busier areas of Kamakura.

10:30 AM

Goryo Shrine

We will walk to Goryo Shrine. One feature of Goryo Shrine is that the Enoden train passes right in front of the torii gate. This shrine, along with Gokurakuji Temple are a bit off the beaten path, so they are not very crowded. However, please be aware that photos are not allowed on the grounds of the shrine, which makes it much less visited, I think.

11:30 AM

Hase dera temple

Next, we will make our way to Hase dera temple. There, we will enter this large Buddhist temple and tour the grounds. The 9-meter statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy is a must see.

12:30 PM

Kotoku-in Temple

About a ten-minute walk is Kotoku-in Temple, famous for the large bronze Buddha. A visit to Kamakura is not complete if you do not visit this famous temple.

01:30 PM

Kamakura Station

We will accompany you to Kamakura Station. This will be the end point of the tour. However, we can direct you to the famous Komachi Street, which has food vendors, street foods and local shops so you can continue your exploration of the wonders of Kamakura!

Ending Point

About Tour Guide Machi S.

Hello, my name is Machiko!

I was born in raised in Kanagawa Prefecture but also lived for 12 years in the United States. While living in California, many people showed me kindness and helped me to adjust to living abroad.

Now that I am back in Japan, I want to "pay it forward" and return that kindness by sharing my local knowledge of Kanagawa to visitors from abroad.

In Japanese, we have a word, "omotenashi", which means "hospitality". It is an important part of our culture to welcome our guests with warmth and sincerity.

I can speak both English and Japanese, so I want to be more than just a personal tour guide; I want to help bridge our cultures, with respect and understanding, while sharing the beauty and local charms of Japan.

Please consider me and we can explore my corner of Japan to learn about the culture, food and history of my home together!
